Still waters run deep (sometimes) « Result #5 Yesterday at 7:42pm »
Though I would do what bl1ndfsh does and keep a diary of my antics I go with bl1ndfsh a fair bit at various place's but today i went to Polo
Daz was gonna go but other commitments put paid to it for him so i went alone
Stopped at the tackle shop in miggy with the intention of buying some maggots which i did but also bought a method mould and feeder.
I have never tried this way of fishing before so it was a bit alien to me.
On arrival i had a walk round there was one other lad fishing. Dave who fishes the place all the time and gave me a few pointers.
So back to my car and unload I got a peg close to the car and here is my view
Next up I mixed up some method mix and then set up my rods. I chose to put a bollie on the carp rod and put that out.
I then cracked open the sweet corn and used an open feeder with some of the method mix and a few maggots mixed in.
Nothing happened for most of the day not even a knock or a twitch although i did have a brave robin pay me a visit. sat on my quiver rod making some strange noises so gave him some maggots for his trouble.
So like Daz if he pays me another visit i will give him a name
Anyway the day drew on and still nothing at all I moved onto the method feeder but even that was not doing anything for me and i began to doubt about if i was doing it right.
I decided at 4pm to try using a bit of luncheon meat so sat down and began slicing a bit of meat.
The method rod sprang into life and a not so spirited fight ensued
and in it came to the net I am a size 12 foot so you can see gauge how big it was.
When you blank as much as i do this was a real buzz for me. Daz had popped in to see me and popped out again to check on the match over the road so i was taking my own pics
I baited up the method feeder and slung it out again. within 5 mins the quiver dropped back and did not move. i gave it a few seconds and nothing so took up the tension. it just seemed to not want to so i lifted up and started to reel in.
nothing and then all of a sudden it went for it. a bit more sported but still tame
and in came number 2
I cast out again but nothing Daz came back and i began the process of packing up. Dave packed and came up for a chat by the time i was done it was dark and that was my first polo visit.

Re: dogs at knotford « Result #15 on Jan 26, 2012, 1:52pm »
As a dog owner and fisherman I love the thought of being with my faithful friend during my favourite pastime, but I feel it's fully my responsibilty to make sure she's well behaved and that I immediately clear up after her, if I obey these rules then no-one would have a reason to complain as it wouldn't affect them at all, BUT unfortunately there are people who don't clean up, allow their dogs to run wild, bark all night etc. etc. spoiling it for everyone. Until every dog owner behaves responsibly you can't blame other people for getting fed up, I do when I arrive in a peg and it's full of poop. Maybe on the spot fines, enforced with the help of the E.A for unruly dogs, it's amazing how people can change when there's a fine involved
narrow boat advice « Result #16 on Jan 25, 2012, 7:03pm »
hi all, i,m thinking of booking a weeks hol on a "narrow boat/canal boat", i just wondered if anyone has any reccomenadtions, ie: places, rivers, canals etc, there seems to be a massive choice on the net, (its not cheap i know) so i would prefer to go for something reccomended, rather than taking a chance as a novice? (err clueless)

I dont own a dog I dont care much for them but if someone wants there dog at there side i dont have a problem with it. Providing they clean up after it and dont let it wander round the place.
Re: linton on ouse (bottom) « Result #18 on Jan 25, 2012, 4:48pm »
There are some big roach on the topcliffe stretch - not in big numbers though and few fish for them as most want to catch the barbel. No matches allowed so you should get a peg if you go earlyish this time of year.

Highbury Pond, Meanwood « Result #21 on Jan 25, 2012, 12:34pm »
Afternoon folks,
Quick question. I intend to fish this lake at some point during the next few weeks, I've seen that's it's rated 3 stars. I thought I would ask the guys who know best, have any of you fished it? If so are there any tactics I should try out? I was thinking, either the method or waggler fishing. Ive had a walk around it and I may be difficult to ship a pole back any great distance.
Any tactics I should avoid? Any help would be really appreciated. If you could let me know, that would be great!

Your welcome about the signs, James. Phil and I did that in the rain fingers crossed it will deter people walking around and plead ignorance that they didn't know it was private land

You'll never please everyone mate. However, I think if a water is potentially ruined by predation that is a different story.
Yeah, a dozen or so fish have been lost, and at the meoment they have been the smaller ones, as an angler it is said to see any losses, but in a sick twisted kind of way, it is helping reducing the biomass. but as I said, there is a limit
Re: dogs at knotford « Result #24 on Jan 25, 2012, 9:22am »
good to see the club has put some private signs up hopefully will deter dog walkers letting there dogs run around out of control around the place and sh*tting every where. I don't mind anglers taking there dogs on the bank and if I had one I would want to take it as long as they are well behaved and are cleaned up after I don't see the harm. I agree with frim but at the same though rules is rules

Re: Wintersett? « Result #28 on Jan 24, 2012, 8:46pm »
there seems to be a few small shoals of decent old bream left, but not many and no record breakers, not easy to find them as they move about a lot and its a big water, you dont see them much either which makes it harder to locate them, there are more productive venues but if you like a challenge its worth a go.
