Dranv8 I take it from your post that you may be an inexperienced piker. Many do fish for pike in the summer months - usually with lures. The problem is that in spite of their ferocious appearance they are easily damaged. If caught in low deoxygenated waters- that are often the norm in summer- they can finish belly up after the fight -especially if light gear is used. You need to know what you are doing if you are interested in the safety and welfare of these fish . p.m me if you need guidance on catching these fish - I will try to sort out a session if you like. geoff
cheers, i agree the pikes safety and welfare is paramount, i have had some success so far with fish from 3 to 14 pounds and all fish have been carefully handled and have swum away healthy to grow for another day, thanks for the offer of advice i have p.m d you

I think you need to add a few new variables to the fish catching equation at topcliffe. Fish wise up in all the river stretches I ever fished - they must be wary of a pellet fished static surrounded by loosefeed by now. Does anybody floatfish? geoff
a cormorant has took up residance under the bridge at topcliffe three mornings this week it has flown off ass i crossed the bridge i also saw it down at asenby
Clarkies Glide « Result #12 on Aug 28, 2010, 12:58pm »
Hi
I am new to this site, however I found a query asking what peg number Clarkies Glide was. As Helperby was not permanently pegged, the number changed with each match, however on many a Kirkstall, Sellars or Liberal league match when all the length was booked, I recall it was about number 45 ish.
Dennis Clark who the peg was named after is my father & he is still going strong at 85 years old. He does not fish any longer but remenisces about "mugging the chub" in his favourite swim.

Although very picturesque it is not an easy river to fish and bites for the more decent fish can be few and far between. I have had some reasonable roach in winter to about 1lb 4oz and chub to 5lb 4oz on general legering tactics together with a couple of barbel (biggest 7lb 2oz). This has been from approximately 30+ sessions over the years. I have no doubt there are bigger fish there but time and patience are the key. Plenty of pike to double figures which readily take lures.

Re: Upper limit at Grimston park ? « Result #24 on Aug 23, 2010, 12:42pm »
Stan Thank you for your information, I walked up as far as where the river bends sharp right and then goes straight up to the "mucky hole". On that sharp bend there are several stumps, I'm sure these are those mentioned by Graham, as for well worn stands I could not see any and the vegetation, Thistles, nettles etc are waist high for several hundred yards, it dose not look like anybody has been up there for months.
Where are the match notifications of booked waters « Result #25 on Aug 23, 2010, 11:33am »
Over the last few trips on a Sunday to various waters (rivers) i have driven miles and miles to get there to find that there is a match booked on the water that is not in the year book or any notices placed on the venue stating that there is a match that day. I was told that the information is on the website as to what places have been booked for matches and where - but i cannot find this information anywhere - does it actually exist and if so, could someone tell me where this is please? The matches that i am talking about are not Leeds matches - but affiliate club matches.....
Its really annoying to find that you spend all that money on petrol etc, only to get to a water and be told there is a match on - it happened to me at 2 venues this weekend

Hi Update on pumping station car park; the first part of this car park is exclusively for the use of 'Launds House' patrons and Leeds & District members the remainder beyond the fence is the 'Lagoon' car park for York members. If you are going tomorrow you now have a much shorter walk to those barbel.

Graham Thank you for your reply, I think I know where you mean, the stumps are on quite a sharp bend opposite a sandbank and approx 100 yards above the sunken barge I mentioned.

Hi Keith 76 views now but who's counting. Just had a look on the Google map and in my opinion the top 'balloon' is far too far downstream. If memory serves me right i have drawn the 'salmon pool' at about peg 20, but it may have been re-pegged since then. Zoom in on the map and looking upstream the river bends slightly to the right, straightens out before bending left and the top limit is after this bend, which faces approximately halfway down the Tadcaster bottom length, the first pegs on the Ulleskelf bank were normally left out because of double banking and they also had a line of stumps which forced you fish mid stream and beyond.
