well after my pathetic attempt to catch a decent Grayling at Middleham,. thought I'd sneak an hour in this morning. the river was very low so suited my love of wading (theres just something special about being stood in the middle of the river ) After a couple of trots the first obliging Grayling took a fancy to the red maggors and cleared my doubt that there was something wrong with my float at Middleham then I felt something on my head , or should I say on my " Don't I look a twit in this camouflaged drop eared hat " I put my hand up but nothing. Two minutes later I felt it again . . . . nothing. Another minute later and I glimpsed sometinh heading towards me out of the corner of my eye and then "bump" it landed on my head I kept still while whatever it was did a little Irish jig on my hat ........ and then it jumped onto my rod We stood looking at each other for a while and finally agreed that if it would pose for a photograph I would give it some maggots. It thought about it and then we shook on it and the deal was done And so that was the routine for the next hour. It would land on my head, jump down onto my rod and sit there staring at me until I gave it some maggots ................... absolutely fantastic Inbetween our dalliance I did manage a few Grayling and a new PB at that And the ubiquitous suicidal trout weren't far away . . a nice one of those about 2 pound as well A memorable and very enjoyable couple of hours ......................... now, where did I put that paintbrush

Brilliant photos there Dave, and fantastic to see that little fella again - he followed me from swim to swim there a fortnight ago but I never realised he preferred whites - I only had reds and worms for him that day. Plus bread on the side of course.
When I went back to the bottom swim after photographing a grayling for Claire a blackbird was helping himself from various baitboxes too!
Oh and what a splendid fish. Well played sir.

Well that is great! How big is the grayling Dave? Unfortunately Jim I'd literally only gone for an hour or so and only had my rod , landing net and bait apron so didn't weigh it, but I reckon it was a good pound and a half Thought it was a trout at first when it shot off . . . certainly biggest I've had todate anyway

Dave Doolittle Pmsl That's what his wife says to him when she comes home Fulla lad , I'll have you know I vacuumed the room, tidied up the kitchen , put some stuff in the loft, tidied the garden and had a game of squash - ( and went fishing for an hour ) all while you were poncing about in your sunglasses and flip flops on in some swamp somewhere in the Far East trying to catch a large mouthed sweetcorn munching Carps. And by the way, don't be cranking 'em in like that when I take you to Knotford in the spring . . . there's no Redfins of Large Mouth Maraku in there Tight lines bud . . still waiting to see the 100 pounder

Not quite 100lb but you'll have to settle for this pasty 70lber that I caught today Lost a steam train today took me everywhere then snapped 40lb line like it was cotton think the 100lber will have to wait till Sunday worst part was it was a red tail such a prestigious fish
