Well had a spare hour this morning so headed down the Wharfe with waders, new Greys pin and a tin of sweetcorn ready to give it an outing. See if I can give Steve my opinion
Line coming from the bottom I cat in without any loose feed and the rod was almost ripped out of my hand 9well it felt like it did ~0 before id got three foot down the swim
Another piece of corn on and 5 seconds later I suspect the same culprit tore off with the float .
Not a bad start . . two casts and christened my new pin
They don't half scrap on light gear and fast water
I could tell the engineering difference and quality between the Greys and the Konix straight away but oddly the Konix from memory, seems smoother and spins easier Or it could be that last time I used the Konix it had 9lb line on , a 3 swan loafer and a 1 inch cube of meat
Got a couple more throut , a Grayling or two then thought I'd try the line coming off the top. Let all my line go down the river and wound it back on the other way.
Recast .................. bingo
Nice to see some 6 to 8 ounce Chub back in the Wharfe
The only problem was I forgot to reel in the other way round so after 5 turns of the handle the line was all over the place
Sorted it out and had another minutes which resulted in a couple more Chub.
CONCLUSION
The Greys is far better engineered quality than the Konix and the line never went behind the spool which it does occasionally on the Konix, The Konix spins better
Line off the top is definitely better to avoid slack line tangles but reeling in is like rubbing your belly and patting your head
For that reason , its back to line off the bottom for me
