Why dose it take so long for river level updates If you are after info to try and predict what the levels are going to be like, check the stations higher up the river, you can see what's on its way. There can be little change in the lower swale for instance, but check the level stations at grinton or Richmond and there can be 2 or 3 feet of water on the way! Add the lag in the data being available and you can get a reasonable guesstimate of what to expect, That's what I do to get an idea of what to expect anyway, hope that helps a bit! Eddie.

They usually are updated twice a day ; I recently tried (and failed)to see if EA could also publish water temperature readings . I doubt it would have been especially difficult but ,given how hard EA budget has been cut, I wasn't too surprised

In potential flood conditions they're updated more often

The Swale had a good bit drop in yesterday when I checked Myton, Wharfe at Tad had a bit but not so much.

The Nidd was three foot up, dropped only 6-8 inches through yesterday, dropped another 8 inches overnight, it's going to fish really well the next 48 hours or so folks.
But my mates are playing cricket at Harewood House today and I said I'd go there, so maybe just a short session on the Wharfe after that for me.

I think you'll find it just feeds off the existing EA data and updates when that does e.g Cundall at the moment (20:25hrs) the last data is for 0545am this morning

Do you reckon this bit of rain will put a bit more in for Tomorrow/Thursday?

Do you reckon this bit of rain will put a bit more in for Tomorrow/Thursday? Always seems to be the Nidd the only one you can definitely say yes, after any decent bit of rain it has and it will have for a day or two. The Aire and Calder have had a much needed few extra inches, but as usual they seem to go back down so quick, usually within hours not days. Do they have no tributaries any more ? (answer no, cos of the canals probably) Nothing much else is showing a rise.

just looking at river levels with a view to deciding where to go tonight. Skip Bridge is showing at 1.44m (some 1.22m above "normal low levels"). Hunsingore is showing at 0.19m(some 0.11m above "normal low levels"). Ouse at Beningborough is showing at 1.87m (some 1.75m above "normal low levels"). Now I know that a flush of water can run downstream & that the measuring points at Skip Bridge & Hunsingore are seperated by the weir at Hammerton, but does anybody know if the influence of the Ouse when in flood "backs up" through Skip Bridge ? or is there a rogue reading ? Cheers Andy
