I don't get the importance of Salmon at all, yet the EA spend large sums of money in river improvements, and stocking schemes which will take a lifetime to recoup. BOF

One thing to keep in mind about salmon, if a venue becomes a regular producer the rents can go through the roof and coarse angling can be priced out! I don't think there are many fish in the system, just an occasional one or two, if you know what I mean!

My understanding is that Leeds own the fishing rights here not rent them.

I wouldn't blame the EA too much, even though they can get a bit moist about salmo salar - the main factor is that the Water Framework Directive(which is pan European ) requires countries in the EU to improve waterways to enable fish migration . Funding for this is ring fenced - so if it isn't spent on this it isn't spent on anything. And whilst, like many ,I can tire of the public obsession with salmon they are not the only migratory fish - eels of course but many coarse fish species move around a lot during the year and if funding enables better spawning then it is good news . Far better to invest in self sustaining waters than short term gain but ultimately pointless 'restocking '- because if there aren't enough fish then restocking does nothing to address the root cause .

Why anyone would put salmon on their bikinis is beyond me.
