Which is why I mentioned in another thread it needs treating with chemicals down there, it's that bad that's the only way you will keep it open year after year. Just as a cautionary tale by the way, look what happened to another (not quite so famous) "Horseshoe Bend", when they applied those chemicals:

First Horseshoe Bend barbel for me this afternoon (just a 3-pounder), and first Dump Hole chub (just an estimated 1-5). Well played to whoever has opened the two new Dump Hole pegs since Tom's video. It's two spots just 4 or 5 yards apart that would suit two mates fishing - though only one was fishable yesterday with the river four foot up. I can see why it would have been a good draw for the matchmen, especially on a day like this. Same entry point from the farm field onto the wilderness, then turn sharp right back the way you came on the other side of the flood bank (obviously). Bit of a clamber down to the peg & back up, would be tricky if wet. I also did more clearing in Nickmac's "peg one" (pictured earlier in this thread) to make it a 2-rod job, and I gave the pegs hell on the way out too, so they'll stay open the rest of the season now. So that's at least 7 pegs open on the Horseshoe plus Jez's 2 or 3 on the Glide (again i didn't fish that side this time, because the crops that side are still not harvested - do they grow barley and wheat in the same field with totally different harvest times??) Here's the Dump Hole looking first upstream (looking North, flow coming towards me) and then below downstream (as the river flows off westwards to the left): Attachments:

Well played Ian. I was hot too after the walk and I even took me fleece off. I wanted to fish that spot where you got the chub on the way back yesterday, but it was under three or four extra feet, and looking at today's levels, it still is now! Claire was on the next peg down from where you were, landing one small barbel, losing one, and had other runs .... on cheese! (see French cheese stones thread! ) My barb at the 'Shoe yesterday was only a little one but meant a lot to me from my new favourite peg (last week's first-cast fish was that pesky tail-walking pike, this week's first cast wasn't a p.b., but at least it was the target species).

The walk down isn't that bad it was popping into each peg to have a look with all my kit on me back that got to me, and thrashing a way down to the end of the hole had me sweating buckets. I'm looking forward to traveling light and chasing chub in the winter down there.

They should have a "Yorkshire Rivers Mastermind" contest at the Anglers' Club one day. that would really pull 'em in. Amended.... and I've even been onto Tom's comments page too
