I would say that the majority of people that don't fish there do so either because they don't want to; not their style of water or, they have tried it and blanked.
I saw the same three guys piking at the bank end of last year; they caught, and well.
No one mentioned carpers were the only ones tidying or looking after the place at all...
As Bert said, this is going off track slightly

i'm not saying that most of the lads are a danger with the weed and i'm sure they are more than capable of fishing with no problems but the problem is the 15% that have no idea and as it's a club water you will never get rid of that so measures need to be taken to protect the fish That 30 would probabaly got snagged up on any old snag but while there is lots of weed about it make the chances of it getting tethered a lot higher. AS for only the carpers looking after the place there is hardly anyone else there to tidy up because they cannot get near because of the weed. I know a few lads who have let there leeds books go because they can only fish it till may because of the weed As has been stated leed got this water as a mixed fishery and not a carp water so just catering for carpers (which i am one so i keep telling myself ) is not fair on the rest of the members . I have nothing against the lads who fish it at the moment as i've been told most are decent anglers but the monority that are'nt can spoil it for the rest with death rigs and the like. It looks like i might get thrown in next time i'm down there but i've only said what i thought was right but we'll have to suck it and see. The lads who are bothered about catching small carp need to raelly think is half an hours sleep really going to hurt that much Last year there was a large number of people tench fishing (massive thanks to the tench angler who got the idiots in the pad to switch their lanterns off , float fishing, feeeder fishing for anything that came along. Even a few match anglers were walking round chatting to us and telling us what good bags of tench they had had. There is some lovely tench in there, and big bream too (although I would rather cut by knackers off than fish for them ). The fact that it holds a large number of decent sized fish means that by default it is a specimen water, you aren't going to fish for 8lb tench or 10lb bream with 3lb line are you? Yes there is weed, but not laods, and with a bit of common sense it is very easily combatible. No one is going to throw you in, but you do have a very strange way of "welcoming" yourself on to a new water but moaning that changes need to be made based on the opinions of a few others rather than your own. Had you fished there and made the comments then fair enough but going by what others say and being so adament that it is correct when there is a much larger number of other anglers contradicting what you have been told seems a bit bizzare to me, but hey ho. I can tell you for certain if I went to the syndicate leader on the other water I fish and asked him to remove the weed he would tell me to give my ticket in - and fair play to him. I know clubs cannot have the same control over who fishes there waters as a syndicate can, but we need some sense on the situation, it is a great lake for everyone - who has a got the bottle, and b got the ability to fish. Look at wintersett - shall we fiull that with stockies so everyone can catch with ease, or maybe chuck several thousand catfish and a couple of 40lb carp in Kippax park so the chaps that like fishing for them can have ago?

We get complaints and we do something about it, we get slated; we ignore complaints and we get slated. why don't we invite all members to every meeting for their views???

Graham, I didn't mean my posts to be taken as direct critisism of Leeds, I know you guys are stuck between a rock and the proverbial hard place. It just seems strange that some people have complained when they don't actually fish there. Those who have made complaints that do fish there fair enough, but it seems some just like to complain for the sake of it.
I guess that the silent majority have only themselves to blame by not letting everyone know that things are ticking along fine.

the blue dye thats been put in will slow the growth of weed,so there will be less weed in the early part of summer, thereby making the fishing easier for those who find weed a problem, cant see any long term problems with that, and at least somethings been done.Three years ago wintersett was treated with a powerful aquatic herbicide which wiped out ALL the weed and as a result the total number of carp caught was less than ten,a all time record low.The lake has totally recovered and is back to normal, the fishing is just the same as it always was and thankfully herbicides are not allowed anymore so the yacht club will have to remove the weed using other methods in future, think yourselves lucky you havent got a yacht club to knacker up your fishery and remember, its just a bit of dye

This won't be easy. First of, Dinorod, your quote about too much weed killing the fish is only relavent in small overstocked waters. (garden pond ) Yes it can happen on warm summer night in large waters, I'll give you that one. But inhibating the higher plants will only incorage algae, I asume your going to mess with the phosphate to seal the deal? The guy who thinks it should be managed because it's a man made lake (gravel extraction) Do you know it was also a backfill site for household rubbish for a while? Theres more nutse in there than your old enough to know about. And as for stocking small carp, this can only be a good thing, better still stock the carp you put in winterset in here, get a good head of breading fish going and the weed will get patchy. Tis what fish do I know I bang on about nature, but if you work with it you do get results. Sorry for any upset folks.

This could be an epic but I will try keep to relevant points and give an explanation for the actions taken at Knotford, most know who I am and that I try tell it "as it is" and I don't claim to always get it right. Grahams post earlier is spot on. The number of posts, emails and personal calls to the society about the weed problem and general anglers misfortunes far out weighed those that gave a pat on the back, and not all complaints were from idiots or numpties but most from respected anglers that just wanted to fish the venue in the way they preferred "not unreasonable" carp anglers and night permits are important to Knotford but so are other members! The fisheries management committee needed to find a solution to the problems reported, we are not uncaring lunatics, we are all anglers, and some of us have spent more time in classrooms learning about fishery management than most of those sat behind a matching pair of rods or wafting a pole about. Decisions are not made on a whim and expert advice is always sought, people like Dr Bruno Broughton have spent hours at the lake, some of our anglers wouldn't know him or what he is all about if he bit them on the arse but are happy to plagiarise to sound as if they know what it's all about, believe me it's about more than that and we try cover all angles. We looked first at Caseron G a brilliant weedkiller, you could spot kill with it, harmless to fish, and would have been just the job but its use was banned after March 2010. Other aquatic herbicides were looked into but most killed large areas of weed taking the invertebrate population with it, so we looked further. Manure is tried and tested for holding back weed growth, I don't think anyone is so thick as to not know how it works but it comes with its own problems, any Shiite based manure = fertilizer eutrophication usually follows and you end up with a bigger problem than you started with. Dyofix Blue, a few of us knew the basics of the product but only after Dave Bonsels met with the company MD and his chemists and reported back with his findings did we take the next step, most of you have read the claims and must know it is not a chemical weed killer but slows down growth similar to manure but without the pitfalls, yes some invertebrates are lost but no more than when clearing tons of weed manually yet that doesn't get a mention Dyofix has been used on a number of Trout fisheries, and no fishery relies more on insect or larvae than them. While on the subject anyone that thinks stockies in a 24 acre lake get to thirties on naturals are clueless, they rely more on protein supplied by you. After dosing the lake the colour was not as intense as I imagined it would be, and after seeing the test samples the colour seems to drop out after a week or so without losing it's reflective qualities against UVs. Lets hope it works and every one has a good season. To finish before we left we chated with a couple of carpers on the point, they both looked good anglers, they had both lost good fish in the weed and told us that both fish would have hit the bank if they had the use of a boat to free them, both seemed genuine lads that new the score, It seems to me that if good lads need a boat to combat losses to weed, then some are kidding themselves saying its not a problem. Goof post Steve, and thanks for the clarification.
Just on your last comment about the anglers on the point. They are the same that I caught wading to their chest on Saturday, and when confronted about there beng a no wading rule they replied with "yeah, I know, but I'm not harming anyone". They are also the anglers that were fishing over the top and trying to pull fish through the pads last year.

good post steve i did fish the place towords the end of last year and there was still weed about and wanted to fish it again this year but on day sessions banging a marker about to find clear spots is not what i'm about as for taking advice from others my uncle and his mates fished it before leeds had it and love the place so for them to pull off because of the weed is saying something i don't just listen to any old noddy. Until the place is fished soley by good anglers you cannot have thick weed or fish die and that is All i'm bothered about like i said in my last post we will just have to suck it and see

Im the lad in the point. I have never in my life tried to pull fish through the pads so get your facts right dan. i always fish with care and the number 1 priority is the fish and its health not a fish at all costs. If people cant see that pulling through the pads is a non starter they want their heads testing or banning. What is up dan... are u starting rumors cos your jelous ive had a few fish out already? Dont bother coming to chat again unless you have an apoligy because i wont be responsible for my actions.

Oh i forgot to mention... This seems to be a common thing from you dan because i have spoken to a number of anglers on who cant stand you for 1 reason or another mainley down to your pregnant doging. you sound like a woman... he did this they did that. Try let your fishing do the talking instead of your big mouth and untrue rumors.
