i would like 2 know why it is unacceptable 2 take my dog fishing with me at knotford as it seems if it was a horse it wud b acceptable 2 sit in my peg or if i wasnt a member i cud walk round all day long with as many dogs as i like without any hassle from part-time ballifs as long as my dog is controlled wot is the problem?

I think this rule was made in the days when the water was a rural idyll rather than the gypsy camp extension that it is now!

I can't comment as to why this rule is in place, but is and therefore should be adhered to. As for the dog walkers it is very difficult to stop them entering the lake through the car park when there's isn't a lock to keep the gate locked, and it's not helped when the gate is left open. It would also be beneficial having "Private Land" signs along the public footpath by the river to keep people on the right side.
As for partime bailiffs, if you feel you could help speak with Chris Wright at the club

My opinion might not be the same as the clubs, but I think our bailiffs should be allowed to make decisions to suit the situation particularly on waters that we own. If a members dog is well behaved under control on a lead or in a bivvy let it stay, if its a barking menace or pain in the arse "don't let it stay" The rules said no fires or radios but we all know some anglers cook in bivvies and listen to entertainment surely its just common sense and both members and bailiffs should be prepared to take responsibility. I am all for actions like Geds at Wintersett, he didnt need an antiquated rule book to tell him that keeping fish for days in a keepnet was wrong even though the guy wasn't breaking club rules, he just did what he thought was right for the fish and the fishery. If the bailiffs and anglers at Knotford dont have a problem with the dog, that would be good enough for me. frim

well said frim ,i love my dog with me for company and a bit of security commonsense i keep mine on a long rope tied securely peg down and shes no bother at all .of course too bring a biter or a out of control barker is a no-no ,keep them tethered and what harm are they doing, and to leave the dogs doings should lead to a hefty ban from the club

I checked the other thread and it wasnt me that started it mate i just wanted to see if there was any more info on the matter. Most places i wouldnt even consider taking the dog but at knotsford theres that many pegs and horses on the bank a well behaved dog wouldnt even be noticed. Ive never heard of otters attacking dogs before but if this is true we must have problems

good to see the club has put some private signs up hopefully will deter dog walkers letting there dogs run around out of control around the place and sh*tting every where. I don't mind anglers taking there dogs on the bank and if I had one I would want to take it as long as they are well behaved and are cleaned up after I don't see the harm. I agree with frim but at the same though rules is rules

Your welcome about the signs, James. Phil and I did that in the rain fingers crossed it will deter people walking around and plead ignorance that they didn't know it was private land

I dont own a dog I dont care much for them but if someone wants there dog at there side i dont have a problem with it. Providing they clean up after it and dont let it wander round the place.

As a dog owner and fisherman I love the thought of being with my faithful friend during my favourite pastime, but I feel it's fully my responsibilty to make sure she's well behaved and that I immediately clear up after her, if I obey these rules then no-one would have a reason to complain as it wouldn't affect them at all, BUT unfortunately there are people who don't clean up, allow their dogs to run wild, bark all night etc. etc. spoiling it for everyone. Until every dog owner behaves responsibly you can't blame other people for getting fed up, I do when I arrive in a peg and it's full of poop. Maybe on the spot fines, enforced with the help of the E.A for unruly dogs, it's amazing how people can change when there's a fine involved
