Gutted
had a afternoon on the Nidd at Hammerton Mill today, started on the first peg after the weir. well even tho all the work that had been done down there and I do appreciate what`s been. it tuck me a good half hour to get to the river made a good enough path tho,
anyway plonk myself down meat on the hook stayed in the peg for around an hour, nothing happening so went for a walk looked at another couple of pegs but didn't seem right.
so got all my gear together to go home when walking past the top length and not fished it for 20 year all sorts was going through my mined, well after a moment of madness put my leg over the fence and down to the river I go. sat down on the bank which has been open up really well, meat on hook with a secret ingredient I had added and in it went.
with in 2 minutes rod bent double FISH ON......... hold it steady now............. line went out reel in and again line went out reel back in then into the bush on the other side and BANG !!! Reeled in nothing missing even got the hook back apart from the hook been bent right round.
tried another couple of time but the big fish didn't come back well for tonight anyway it was definite my PB or maybe not as case may be, but I haven't finished with that fish yet its still got my name on it.

Johnboy I was at the mill yesterday, took the option of finding these new cut out swims as all the effort had been done. I chose to pre bait three swims. By the time I had done this and the trip from the car I was nearly 2 hours since I'd left home and no where near fishing! I fished the three swims for no more than half hour each, but with the trek between swims it took forever. Got a slight tremble in the 3rd swim but nothing developed. I was away from the house for 6 and a quarter hours and I bet I wasn't fishing more than 2. I think I'm going to have to review my tactics on this stretch. It's supposed to be fishing isn't it? I was bl00dy knackered to boot!

Unlucky this time johnnoy. Have you had a look at the bit just above the old mill in the wood. Some of the trees have been thinned out and it looks like we may be able to get to the river. I have always thought it looked quite good just above the weir, surprisingly pacey and shallow. As far as I'm aware never fished!
