When you fish Yorkshire rivers jimmy the river can be 3 or 4 ft below you or there may be 3 ft of reeds in front of you to the river, You need a landing net in these situations.

In this situation you are spot on can't disagree with that I shoudl of said in cases that it can be done The other week I had 2 catfish 1 was 31lb and other 38lb stupidly heavy weight and awkward to carry the sling was a must as the landing net would of bent it triple,,. Not in the pikes case but in the carps and catfish case I find taking my time and doing the job thoroughly is best ,,,, but I know pike need it quick time which is why they scare me a bit,,,, not confident with em so leave em alone

The last few frosty mornings seem to have woken the pike up. Had a session on the river today and managed 6 pike - 5 from the same swim. The best fish went 11 lb 10 oz, 10 lb 1 0z, 8lb 10 oz and 7lb. All caught between 10 am and 3 p.m.

Well I'd been promising myself a trip to Skipton all season so decided to give it a go and set off with the directions in my memory Half way up the A1 I got that nervous feeling about my memory so gave Jhop a ring ........ after his expert guidance I drove on confidently towards junction 50 ............................. and then straight past it Its quite nice In Bedale and its only 10 miles further up the A1 About turn and ten miles later due south I turned off and headed towards Skipton ......... and then memory failure kicked in again No answer from Jhop - no answer from Ronnie so in desperation it had to be Shane ...... " haway pet Rushy hows yoos doing canny like " Err , I'm lost mate , I know you've fished Skipton 6 times , how do I get there ? "Haway pet its canny like .. ah canna remember pet ir woor last year like mind so the pub might have changed into a parmo house pet divvnt ya naar like ........ canny them parmos like pet wi a guiness " So ten minutes later we said our faewells and gave up on the directions ........ I saw what looked like an entrance so turned in there and bingo , a mile and a half later I was on the river It was well up and raining but I was ready for the fresh air to try and get rid of the headache !! I put a sprat on and flicked it out and wobbled it back ...... nothing so it went back out and started wobbling and twitching again ....................... wallop around went the rod end ....... hey hey success 2nd cast ...... could be a good day this .............. my first Swale Pike Okay so its not the biggest Pike in the world but it scrapped well The heavens opened so I moved on and found somewhere to stick the brolly in and retreat to a static dead - see I'm even into the Pike jargon now Gave it half an hour until the rain subsided then walked up to the top of the length and worked my way down with the staic dead and wobbled sprat on the other rod. After half a dozen pegs the float lifted up amd moved downstream a foot ......... mmmmmmmm was that a bite ............................ yup !!! Pike number two on the bank and it had taken the sprat all the way in Kept my calm, laid her on her back , opened the mouth through the gills and got the hooks out no problem ........ well pleased with myself Definitely deserved an arms outstretched photo Time to go so packed up and me and 32 following cows headed for the exit .............. I managed to get over the stile before they got too excited Always start with little uns ........ that's my motto ...................... well it is now

Good unhooking practice them little uns Rushy - much harder than the bigger fish. Like the barbel fishing go further downstream for the trophy shots Is your posh new landing net proving treble friendly?

Another great read and some nice Pike, well done, seeing a pike float come to life is one of my favourite moments in fishing. Agree completely with Geoff the smaller ones do tend to be much trickier to unhook. Got my rubber landing net the other day and it is totally treble friendly, on offer too www.harrissportsmail.com/Models.aspx?ModelID=20893

Rushy your right Bedale is a nice place, golf course is nice as well. You couldn't get hold of me as I was on the rugby pitch giving my youngest son some extra practice prior to today yorkshire cup game agaist west park leeds and for his upcoming county trial. Glad to hear you got there and managed to nab a couple, recognise the 1st picture as the peg I have been fishing hoping to have a go there myself this Friday, I'm sure your next trip there will be easier.

Good result Dave, all the likely looking pike holes seem to be on the far bank at Skipton unfortunately. Although one or too always make a appearance, a coupleof seasons ago I had a monster chub out of the near bank slack in your picture. It took a really big lamprey section. It must have sucked it in like a piece of spaghetti. Mick.
