Had a very eventful day on sunday....took myself piking for the first time this season and got myself a handsome 18lb pike buuuut I have no pic, hence why I am posting this thread because I want to know what's a good camera that isn't going to break the bank but literally won't break on the bank either. Cheersj

Also important is to weigh your fish accurately- some advice here
Here's how I weigh my fish.
1. Get it in the net....rest the fish. 2. Prep your weigh sling by wetting it and THEN zero your scales. 3. Transfer your fish to the sling and let your scales come to a rest. If you have digi scales and it's flicking from one ounce to another then you take the lower of these. 4. Once the weight is verified place the fish back to the water. 5. If you need to take a picture then prepare your camera etc so you keep the fish out for the shortest time. 6. When taking the pictures DO NOT EXTEND YOUR ARMS the nasal test is a very good gauge of fish size.
After all pictures are taken. Rest the fish with it's head upstream until it kicks away, then release.

Not much commen sense really have you? Look at the firat post av1bar3l.......its about a camera, not unhooking but atleast someone was just posting the lead up to a good photo. I have been fisging for a very long time but decided to take a camera for once and asked advice. There are 90 yr olds who have fished 40+ years more than you have never used a camera in fishing.

any camera will do even better if you can stick it on a small tripod or a bank stick with a attachment, it all depends on your budget.
I take a lot of photos of wild life so I have a big camera but just put the small lens on for fishing photos with a clicker switch on a long lead I just kneel on the clicker to take the photo, hope this helps Johnboy.

You can buy mobile phone adaptors for tripods/ bank sticks which can be handy. I have a Sony Xperia phone which is waterproof (I can confirm as I have dropped it in the river) and has a good Camera . I have mobile mount for a tripod then a camera to bankstick adaptor. I just put my phone on the bankstick and set it on timer.
Sent from my C6603 using proboards

I use an I phone when I'm day fishing And I have a Nikon cool pix p520 for my night fishing as the flash and 18megapixel is great for night shots.,,,, £280 ish I think also has 48x optical zoom and records video Came with mem card and tripod carry case and the whole shooting match. ,,,,, As for the weighing of fish,,,, you put the fish through all that trauma why not get a photo with the fish looking it's best ? Also 18lb pike id slip a full weigh sling under it and lift the whole shooting match out together,,,, lifting fish out the water with landing nets is not the correct way,,,, Best to dismantle the net and slip a sling under it and loft out then unpackage it all on your mat,,,, Most places kick you off lakes these days for lifting fish out in nets Jimmy
