We wanted to go somewhere new today, but realised there wasn't much point wetting a line at our chosen venue, once we saw the Wharfe up the way it was. So, feeling like a good walk, we decided to explore the whole Pool stretch, looking for the occasional swim that Mr. Crabtree might have told us had some prospect of fish.
Below the bridge, easy - there's a public footpath along the bank.
Upstream of the bridge though ... how do you walk it? There's no way to get between the fields, no right of way, no stiles. We started at the bridge (Leeds sign), clambered across the first couple of fences then gave up. Maybe when its not in flood you can just go past the fence ends along the bank?
As for parking nearing the Washburn end, well there's the layby at the 90 degree turn in the road, but there's no public right of way to the river. Didn't want to go across a field full of sheep, in full sight from the farm, when there was no path down to the river.
Can anyone advise?

Park in the layby you mentioned, walk in the direction of Leathley for approximately 100yards and you will see a fence/hedge at a right angle to your left. This is your entry point, there should be an Amalgamation sign at this point, keep to the fence/hedge down to the river. Good luck Keith

I've been down there dozens of times hoping for perch on worm. I read a feature in angling mail about largish perch..All I have ever caught is trout to 1.10. . Never caught less than 6 in a session and had 17 one day all over 8oz...always blanked down there with the pike rod using smelt
