if its barbel your after your best chance lies beneath topcliffe weir anywhere downstream topcliffe ,asenby brafferton etc think about what your doing be quiet look at it this way most anglers get to a peg look over to the far bank for any cover overhanging trees etc and cast to them but if you were on the far bank you would be looking to cast to the bank your stood on so it seems reasonable that fish may be right at your feet keep your casting to a minimum only cast every hour or so especially at this time of year you dont need pounds of bait in the water sit on yer hands and dont strike at little taps on the rod tip believe me if a barbel takes your bait you will know about it patience is key, all this is for a static approach but unless you know fish are pesent then roving may give best results feed swims up as you walk the banks then return to each one and give it an hour or more brafferton is good for this approach but go light
hope this helps
