Reeely unlucky mate. Feel for you cos I've had bad luck with reels lately meself. 3 weeks ago a bale arm broke on a new reel, yesterday it was the handle of a second-hand reel, but it was the second-string reel on me second-string rod so it didn't stop me fishing.
Lately I've generally been carrying around 2-3 rod/reel combos set up in a rod sling. This means they get bashed about and perhaps occasionally weakened but when I'm doing a lot of short sessions it's a price I'm willing to pay as I must be the slowest and most tangle-prone tackler-upper on the riverbank.
I'll use the closed season to figure out more ways of protecting the reels in the rod sling (which I do walk and and cycle long distances with).

Quite a few blanks yesterday from what I've heard I resisted the temptation and went to Elland Road instead to watch an equally blank game I also had an accident whilst carrying my gear set up in the quiver last week . . Snapped the end off my quiver tip and I must admit the shape of my bail arms do look rather unusual Right then , best get the Commercial gear set up,and go give Carpvale a go in the next week

Quite a few blanks yesterday from what I've heard When I got to the Wharfe yesterday at 1pm, I passed 5 Tadcaster AA members and they'd all had nothing all morning. Good to see it getting fished on the last day though.

That was a REEL good story Try using a rod sleeve chaps,,, or a quiver system,, I Cary 6 rods and reels which have 50mm butt rings and extremely big reels find them to be better in quiver systems than in rod bags as they move around more It's when they can't move about they brake,,, Jimmy, Ps I may have a small catch report to add myself Later

I don't like the in vogue system of made up rods preferring to have them in tubes and reels in padded pouches in my carry all. The bit of extra time it takes to set up is neither here nor there. Sorry for being a smart rse dave but I still have a full complement of full length quiver tips and factory shaped bail arms ; )

know how you feel, went to kirkham abbey on the derwent last week, used my centre pin for the first time in years because i usually use closed face or am converted like dave harrell to fixed spool reels , anyway thought id be a purist and to my horror i had loosened the spool cause its been in storage and hand tightened it thinking that would be ok but noooooooo , it kept loosening and had more wobble on it than a push bike with johny vegas on it, needed pliers to tighten properly which i didnt have with me, luckily had feeder rod but still managed to blank without a single bite, another great day lol
