Where is the actual parking for this venue?
I had a Pike fishing session there today but the path had no layby to park in. I had to park just off the farmer's path on a steep slope which obviously wasn't right.
Thanks

Thanks I wasn't in a car when I went, but i had the impression that when you turn off the canal onto the lane and pass the houses, you come to the gate and just after the gate on the right is an open space with room for at least 2 cars, and that must be the parking .... but ... it was two thirds full of farm stuff... so maybe only just room for one car when I passed, or maybe not quite. I made a mental note that there's more than enough room to park just at the junction of towpath & lane, but whether that would be frowned upon by locals I dunno. There weren't any signs saying not to. I bloomin' LOVED my recent afternoon there, and I'll be returning frequently I hope.

Thanks Nige, the area you mention for parking was full of rubble, old building products and a general dumping ground. I squeezed my car on there but had to park it on broken tiles etc which wasn't ideal. I thought the open land passed the gate would be better as it's more open but it's clearly the farmers land.
The stretch didn't seem too great for Pike but I know the neighbouring area holds some specimens so it was worth a shot. I did have what looked a low double chase in my deadbait upon retrieving but other than that, I left with my tail behind my legs!

sorry to hear that as I did mention in another thread that I thought a couple of swims looked potentially quite 'pikey' to me, so I hope it wasn't me that misled you! I'm certainly no pike expert.
This stretch doesn't sound like it gets fished much, certainly very little mention of it on here, but I really liked it and certainly wouldn't want the club to take up any 'issues' with the farmer (eg difficult access to some of the stretch, parking space full of farm stuff) .... cos such 'issues' might have a tendency to result in the stretch getting dropped from the book....
Leeds needs some upper Aire on the books is all I can say. We are Leeds after all!

Nige,
I've not read a single thing about the place so don't worry, I wasn't poorly influenced. With the last day of the open season looming and the river levels high, the Aire was the only river which showed the level dropping. I took a punt on trying somewhere new.
I found a few deep holes but the water was pushing though, maybe that's why I wasn't too impressed.
The parking is only adequate enough for one car and as nobody fished there, this seems to be sufficient enough. I'm not too sure if I'll return, maybe later on in the year.
