With the rivers now closed I was wondering what species sandwath lake and ferrybridge complex lakes hold and what styles of fishing are best suited to them. cheers Adam

Hi,
I can offer some advise for Ferrybridge lakes. I have fished them three times in the last 2 years, once for Pike and twice for silver fish. All 3 times i blanked. Maybe i was unlucky, or not fished it right, but a simple deadbait approach, for pike and maggot on the float and feeder for silver fish usually catches something. It's along walk for no reward in my opinion.
Hope this helps.

Adam
I think if you approach Sandwath with a light gear approach you won't go far wrong mate. Start off with 4 pound main line and maybe a 2 pound bottom , 18 hook if you are fishing away from snags. I'm informed there are lots of silvers in so you should pick them up . There's also Carp in there so you might have to ditch the hook length if they start to show. I've not fished it myself for a long while but hopefully this bit of assistance is better than none Good luck mate and let us know how you get on

Hi Adam fished sandwath two weeks ago on first new platform down lefthand side had roach to 3/4 lb perch rudd and skimmers mostly on caster but did get bites on double red maggot. I fished waggler main line 5.5lb to 3.3lb bottom and a size 18 hook hope this helps Graham

Sounds good & thanks for the Sandwath info from me too - I'm hoping to give it a go meself soon - I guess there's a lot of variety of depth, with it being an old brick pit .. or a group of old brick pits?
What's the average depth say a couple of rod lengths out?

its about 8 to 10 feet on most pegs you can fish pole close in because of this but beware of the carp they enjoy smashing light gear. Cheers Grahm

I was very impressed by Sandwath on my first visit lat Saturday. I hadn't expected it to be so well manicured, like a lake at a golf club or someone's back garden. This type of manicured stillwater wouldn't normally be my scene, but credit is due to whoever looks after the place so well. At different points I had lambs within a few feet of me over the fence in the field behind, as well as all kinds of waterfowl and bird life around, and I was on me own when it got past most people's tea time, so the place seemed natural enough for me to give it almost honorary 'river' status for the next 8 weeks.
Very handy for the station too so a great place for me to fish when my Mrs. isn't around.

Still very impressed by Sandwath for its springtime charms - worth it tonight for the sunset alone & then the moon & stars as I packed up .... but I'm not daft and as the dozens of two-to-three inch stunted rudd started to fill my net I have to ask myself whether this is an eco-system in balance. Surely there should have been some larger fish competing for my waggled baits (various depths, various distances, various baits) but none were above the one ounce mark and most nowhere near it! An average 5 ounce fish from my local pond would look like a monster in my net alongside these!
Too many tiny slivers with not enough food and too few predators?
