I'm new to Leeds DASA this year, and would like to take my son to try and catch him his first proper "non-commercial water" carp. I'm not expecting anybody to divulge all of their secrets, but if there's anybody that can provide me with a bit of info such as what pegs to fish and what baits work well, that'd be hugely appreciated! We're looking into going for a day session one Saturday or Sunday in the next few weeks.
Cheers, Stewart.

Hi Stewart
I'm not sure most of the lads that fish KNotford come on here anymore. Hopefully Pete Northface might see your post and offer you some help but I Can tell you from walking round it last week , there doesn't seem to any particular pegs that are popular . . . They all are !!!!
I would suggest you keep away from the lily pad area unless you are an experienced Carper . . I should imagine they will head straight for there if you hook one .
Good luck mate and let us know how you get on

I will be starting to fish there this week and I think swims all around the lake have potential. If you've not seen it before, it's full of features, bays, bars, changes in depth, massive Lilly pads. It can be quite weedy, you can fish distance or lots of the features are not massive casts. Don't know about bait, I am going to do my own thing! But I think there was something on a previous thread about what some of the anglers prefer, my be worth sifting through if you're interested. I don't think it is classed as an easy water, but fish are caught and can be very worthwhile. Most people think I'm bonkers because I particularly want a big bream, some nice doubles present! Hope this is a bit of help or at least encouraging, good luck!
Eddie.

i've not fished Knotty yet but when I look at those photos of Jimmy's in the other thread, I must admit it's the tench and the big bream that do it for me too. They, and carp up to about 15 pounds, always look more natural, but after that the carp just look like bloated steroid abusers (boilies = 'roids ?)

Jimmy is fishing Bradford No1s water across the road, Leeds knotford is a different kettle of fish, if you'll forgive the pun!

Thanks for the advice lads... I'll definitely be taking a walk around the place first before I wet a line there.... Are there decent Tench and Bream in the Leeds Knotford? I wouldn't mind getting into a few of them!

Jimmy is fishing Bradford No1s water across the road, Leeds knotford is a different kettle of fish, if you'll forgive the pun! Eddie. Must admit yesterday was only a first impression but when I came off the Leeds lake at 8.30 pm after a few hours of not even seeing a fish rise or ripple the surface, I had a look over the fence at Bradford's and could immediately see it was full of the fish action that a lake should have when it's getting towards dusk. Bradford's water looks more like an eco-system - dark & deep & muddy & soft-bottomed; ours looks a bit clear & cold &sterile & shallow & gravel-bottomed. How unfair are these impressions? Had a walk round and saw the evidence of the super hard work that's gone in recently by the way - big respect to 'Northface' and everyone who has put the hours in there. It's such dedication that makes me suspect that my impressions must be wrong. But I'm not a carper so it just doesn't seem like Leeds Knotford is for me. When I got to the far corner I spent as much time looking at the river as I did the lake ..

Sorry Nige, if I'd seen your post about going to knotford for a couple of hours margin fishing for silvers, I would have tried to head you off. Not really that sort of fishery, but it holds cracking specimen carp, bream and probably still tench. It's the kind of place you dedicate a season to fishing, with over 50 night permits sold, there are those who appreciate its challenge. I have seen some of the results! Stunning. Bradford's water has, as long as I can remember been more prolific and is a great fishery in its own right, they are just different, I wouldn't like to say which is best, they both have their own allure, up to the individuals own tastes I suppose! I am putting a few, pre river opening, sessions in after, hopefully, a big bream. I would be thrilled to capture a good carp, but a double figure bream is just something I would love to catch. There's no rush, there will be plenty of close seasons to have a go!
Eddie.

I took my lad to Knotford on Saturday... We had a walk around the place and settled for a sheltered (ish) spot in the bay opposite the lilly pads. My son had a run within the first half an hour which ended getting snagged up in the reeds on the near bank and the hook pulled. Nothing else all day until late in the afternoon, an absolute screamer of a run which unfortunately ended up as another hook pull. Gutted to lose 2 fish, but happy with a couple of runs... we'll be back for sure (when it's not so d**n windy! lol)

Bradford no1 won`t give me a fish of any type maybe the grass is greener on the other side lol

Had a four hour session at Knotty today. Once again, well done to the lads that have been working on it , a cracking job and even the car parks nice and level now Fished a couple of pegs right round the other side of the lake . . . Can't resist a walk and a bit of exercise. Unfortunately the fish didn't think my trek was worth a bite so it was a big fat four hour blank. It hard work this Carp fishing Mind you, I did anticipate my 20 minute boredom threshold and took my iPad so I managed to sit still for up to an hour at one point while I watched Steve Coogan Looking forward to giving it another go before the glorious 16th. Can't believe I didn't get a bite on mussels
