Hi
Over the last few days the Polo pond has suffered a number of fish deaths, the Environment Agency have been consulted and on their advice we have decided to keep the fishery closed for the time being while tests are carried out.
This should help members wishing to fish the pond having a wasted journey
Regards Graham

The EA have taken sample fish today for evaluation. I understand that formal identification of any problems could take weeks but I would have thought they will have an unofficial idea within a week or so.
Until we get the results it is difficult to say how long Polo, will be closed but I wouldn't have thought it will be open for a good while yet

It was pretty grim news as regards polo pond at tonight's delegates meeting, the closing of the pond is out of Leeds hands and the likelihood of a serious viral infection, that is already decimating the carp stocks, very real! It is important that anyone who has fished the venue, thoroughly cleans and more importantly lets their nets, tackle and boots etc. Dry in the sunshine, to stop any chance of spreading potential infection! This is to protect other fisheries.
Eddie.
Ps. Will just add wash and thoroughly dry stink bags too! In fact anything that could have come into contact with the water!

Latest up date is that KHV has been confirmed at Kippax Polo Pond, therefore the pond will stay closed for the foreseeable future.
Biosecurity has to be put in place immediately, this will also be done at other venues.
We also now have permission to dispose of the casualties and any future ones, this will be done on site in a proper manner.
The pond will not re-open until CEFAS are happy to allow it.
Both Knotford and Sandwath will remain closed until biosecurity is in place and that may be a couple of weeks.

Will biosecurity be used at Moor Monkton too?
The sun-drying of keepnets (and apparently only keepnets) seems unscientific at best.
When the president himself is apparently saying that stink bags are particularly suspect, how come any wet gear is being allowed on the premises at all?

As stated biosecurity will go in at all owned stillwaters plus Kippax Park.
Biosecurity is not just a bottle of disinfectant poured into a tub of water.
Stink bags are without doubt the worst things ever invented.

OK thanks Graham, it's good to have that confirmed, as I did not realise MM was included in "at other venues."

Devastated doesn't even come close. Its the only venue I fish these days and had become my spiritual home. Gutted personally for my fishing but also for Les and Andy who between them have put so much work in down there. Terrible news and sad indeed. Hope it returns to its former glory but I doubt it will anytime soon.

It's not total devastation. The virus only effects Carp so all being well the thriving a population of other species in there will hopefully get a clean bill of health. That will leave us with a fishery without Carp in . . . May actually suit some members ?
