If anyone has a reasonable example of one of these iconic reels for sale I would be very interested.
Thanks in anticipation Mick.

Thanks Andy , I have four pins and only use one on a regular basis so I guess acquiring another should not be necessary. Can you tell me what the ratchet is like ie how strong is it. The reason I ask is I would want to ledger with it. Also were they made in a wide drum model ? Look after yours Andy and if you fall on hard times I'll give you a fiver for it !

The ratchet is quite stiff - although I've never used it for legering, I would imagine it would be ok, but you would have to keep an eye on the rod if barbel were the target ! I have caught Barbel up to 8lbs on the float with it on light gear - I spool it up with 3 - 4lb line as I don't think it suits heavier stuff. For heavy work I use a Hardy Conquest with 10lb main line. It has a wider spool which suits the heavier line & its ratchet is quite easy to pull through. Not sure if the Aerial comes with a wide spool version. I'll bear you in mind if I need the fiver !!! Cheers Andy

Fred Crouch used to use them for barbel and famously bought the tooling to manufacture them himself.
Yes Dave that'll be the dti you speak of.

Mick I had a play about with mine last night !!!!!!! The ratchet is not as stiff as I remembered - I think you would be ok to leger with it & it would pull through without you losing the rod. So full of innuendo this post ! Cheers Andy

Thats helpful Andy , although not what I wanted to hear. I would have liked it to have a stiff ratchet , 'cos when I'm ledgering with large baits I have the rod locked into solid banksticks so its going nowhere. But when theres extra water in I don't want the reel to give line unless its old bertie taking it.
I would still like one of these anyhow but maybe not for ledgering with , I'll stick with my spedia that I've had since I was a boy.
Thanks for the info Mick.
