Fished at Kirk Hammerton yesterday, hadn't been for a few years. I saw a planning notice for developing ten ponds adjacent to Mill Lane. I also saw a large security gate under construction. Does anyone know what this is about? Will it impact on our access to the Nidd? Will the ponds be in the year book, once completed?

The planning aplication is on the harrogate council site. I have looked and they appear to be small ornamental style ponds if my estimation of size is right. I may be mistaken but it's easy to find if you are interested.

Elliot The gate is the same one that's been there all this summer (and it looks quite old). I wonder if you thought it was 'under construction' cos of the way it looks like there are two panels missing, so pedestrians - anglers and dog walkers - can use the right of way and access the river by stooping through the missing panels of the gate. It's like it's been deliberately designed to say 'well we have to reluctantly give you the right of way but don't forget this is a private drive way.' Some locals do walk their dogs all the way down from the village to the river. It's certainly been there all summer, probably years even, but they only started closing it across the road when more people started fishing it, around 8th August - a week after the working party ... which just happens to be when Tom's video was put up and would have attracted a few people down ... maybe somebody tried to park by the mill or just drive down to drop off their gear or something? Sometimes it only takes one with a bit of attitude... but that's just speculation ... But I don't know anything about the ponds. Have seen the planning notices of course.

I`m not sure I could be wrong but when I was in Leeds 25 years ago those gates used to be there but wear nether closed,
they must of taken them down to clean them up a bit like the edges he as tidy up after a few years, you could nether see is garden like you can know.
also to my knowledge Hammerton used to have a lot of Matches down there, I`m sure someone will put me right but after they stopped the Matches no one hardly fished it. so after the work parties ect it opened up all possibility's for all Leeds Anglers.
