A mate of mine went Piking the other day and reeled his deadbait in after a biteless hour to find this Any previous experiences to tell us whats been having a good old nibble ? My guess was crayfish but it was a pure guess

No idea what's been nibbling that and I'm Not convinced the cable tie is a good idea either. It's going to make it easier for a pike to shake the hooks out. What river was he on the swale and the wharfe both have crays but fortunately I have never had the pleasure of the pesky beasties.

Ive been fishing with that set up for the last 9 winters and have not noticed any difference re hook throws, but lost less deadbaits as i always use micro barbed hooks for fish welfare.

my money is on it being crayfish as i fished loch ken a few year ago and they were stripping dead baits like that in 30 mins. we ate well that weekend as we took lobster pots for them

Whatever works and what you have confidence in is the way to go. I use barbless trebles and secure the bait either with a bait flag or a small piece of rubber band. During the fight the bait usually comes adrift but I'm happy with that.
