I will not be responsible for members safety or have it on my conscience to have night fishing on Yorkshires spate rivers, therefore I will always vote against it.

Would it be possible to have some night fishing venues on the rivers please Tink, catch em through the day mate , it's much more fulfilling and its proper fishing . Anyone can whack a lump of meat out in the dark and sit and wait for Mr Barbel to scream off with ya bait runner . It will get to the point where you can't catch a Barbel through the day unless the conditions are bang on. Take Asenby for example , since Bradford City opened their length opposite ours , you can't get a sniff through the day. The City lads don't turn up until it's dark. Rumour has it they are looking into a forehead lamp implant that you can switch on by twisting your ear

You've just got to be in the right place and swim . Don't go to the dark side of a lump of meat and a head torch . . . There's no return

Rushy Asenby was hard work long before Bradford City acquired the opposite bank to Leeds that the Barbel society gave up due to the fishing being less worthy than their members were prepared to pay for. I have fished it for over 20 yrs - it was never easy. Bradford City have night fishing on the stretch and any Leeds member is welcome to join the club if they want to fish this stretch at night. If you read the Bradford City forum as I do you will find that the few that fish for barbel are not experiencing the fish climbing up their rods at night time - though some do mention the Leeds anglers that are fishing way beyond any extended hours provision.

I joined Bradford city this year basically so I could fish the whole bank right from topcliffe caravan park where I have a van best catch so far 5 barbel in less than 3 hours from under a very small tree and I didn't start fishing until after 8 o'clock so they can be caught through the day
Never seen anybody night fishing but not to say they dont
Think I've had that fish Eddie but it was 9lb 7oz when I caught it

The doubles have already come on the swale and other rivers, still trying for one from the wharfe though! But getting very close, a few 9's this season! Eddie.

The Wharfe isn't easy especially since old three whiskers seems to have met her maker. She came out regularly over 15 lb in at least 3 association waters either side of big weirs as well. But she was a freak. The Nidd , Ouse, Ure, Calder and Derwent all offer a real challenge for those after further Yorkshire doubles. It got a bit time consuming for me and since 2010 I have pulled away from barbel fishing - it was getting like carping - not for me. So now I am mainly a fly fisherman and a piker.
