Has anyone got any information or advice regarding fishing Topcliffe weir pool. Have tried it a few times over the years with little success. Would be great to have an idea of the various depths and likely fish holding spots. Am thinking about buying a Deeper fish finder to get a better idea of the bottom as I have lost a lot of tackle in the past but have been told there are some fairly clear runs in the weir if you know where to cast.

Hi Snooky I think if anyone had found snag free areas of the weir pool the recent floods may changed things. Fishing upstream into the pool from the island is the best way to avoid snags imo. I also think the water in front of the mill building has the worst of the snags (collapsed scaffolding) that may be rumor but that's what I've been told.
Hope that helps.
Mick.

Try the run off from the weir pool, the fish aren't always there, but good results are possible! This is from that swim and it's snag free! Eddie. Ps. The avatar picture is the swim, it might even be the day I had that barbel!

Hi, personally, wouldn't get a Deeper Fish Finder. Check out reviews, especially regards connection, distance it will work. Bluetooth mainly short dist thing, in most cases WiFi can be just as bad. And not just on mobile phones etc. Prod do for small River thou. I do use a castable fishfinder (it won't find fish, the more experienced are always saying).
Cheers Bob

Thanks for the info regarding the fish finder. Was just hoping to be able to get an idea of the depth in the weir pool and any likely fish holding spots and snags etc.

Hi, look here. linkNot just UK, for UK only select on left. Get either this one. linkThink you can change rechargeable batteries, else i wouldn't get ie i like spare power/ batteries. Or this. linkI have this one. These used as examples, see if you can find better prices. I paid £50, but a fair while back. They have been tested, you might get 100 yds with luck. Don't believe owt else. Mind you wont cast them 100 yds, well at least without a weighted Float etc attached as well. With above and better Aerial on Receiver, i bought 1ft long aerial from Hong Kong, now need to make a weighted float. Might get better than 100 yds, or at least lot more reliable reception. Cheers Bob ps O look at reviews for Deeper Fish Finder on Amazon, for confirmation. pps I use it lots on new waters, or sometimes new swims.
