I fished a large stillwater yesterday, didnt catch much, but during the afternoon i noticed a small group of fry in the edge. These were very small , about 10mm in length. These had to be newborn , not overwintered fish. The lake is connected to a river, but the fry were obviously too small to be recognised. It just makes me wonder when the fish had spawned and what they were. I have never seen fry this early

I think they have or are spawning early this year. I gave up my piking two weeks ago as I was only contacting jacks. The bigger fish have stopped coming and my thinking was that they were getting Jiggy and spawning.

Think Minnows start early. Probably them if there's many in your river.
