It has long been my view that Copley Lake would make a much better specimen lake than Howe Lake. Howe Lake is quite shallow with two thirds of the lake only three to four feet deep with a total surface area of 2.25-acre, whereas Copley Lake is 4.5-acre and is up to 10ft deep in places, which would allow the carp some room to grow on.
In my conversations with the Carp anglers it is quite obvious that Copley Lake would be their first choice as a night venue. Howe lake would make a cracking commercial carp type lake and would provide an alternative for the match and pleasure angler when there are matches on Kendall Lake.
Obviously there would have to be a transfer of fish from lake to lake but I do not think this is much of a problem. One of the benefits of doing this would be the natural control of the weed in Howe Lake with a large influx of small carp and the cost of stocking would be off-set partly by not having to spend money on weed control.
I would think that the banks on some parts of Copley Lake would have to be leveled to accommodate the siting of bivvies but this would not be excessively expensive.
Anyway, for those of you that fish the lakes and anyone else for that matter please give your views.

Hi Gus, As you may know i am a regular at the catterick complex with my dad and we both have night tickets. In my opinion i think that this is a very good idea.
The main carp lakes is far bigger as you have mentioned and doesn't have weed problem unlike the specimen lake. Last year there was that much weed the lakes was unfishable which was a waste of money for the night ticket.
We could have a few of the members night fish the specimen lake and transfer the fish or net the lake. So the sooner this could happen the better if you ask me
cheers

It's not a bad idea as long as the water level was kept up at it's true level.
