I think that roach are making something of a comeback on the rivers. I just think that very few people fish for them anymore. I've been fishing the wharfe over the last few seasons and had around 15 fish, 3 over 2lb. Biggest 2lb 12oz. I've been fishing after dark sometime snot getting a bite until 11pm. I also managed 50 blanks on the trot at the back end of last season. The fish are there but you have to work hard to find them.

2lb 12oz is a massive fish for a Yorkshire river,Richwak! Its comforting to know as it gives me some hope whilst I am failing miserably.

What methods are you using? Trotting or on the tip, bread or maggots?

Normally quiver with 2 rods - bread on one and maggots on the other. Have had plenty of fish (to 1lb 4oz this season from Nidd and Ouse) but can't break the 2lb barrier. I think its just down to location.

get on river aire above crown point, fish and feed bread 2 rods out,had many 2 pound late on but you get a lot of good 1 lb fish,if you get the river right that is,if in flood fish below crown point bridge in loch facing cadets at the moment its stuffed with perch so use bread for roach or maggot for mixed bag

Harry
I used to fish chippies quary alot and caught many a big roach. Casters shallow feeding plenty or bread at around 3 ft still feeding casters managed to get the bigger roach on this method in the warmer months. The greedy big chub occasionally came in also. The later in the day the better.
Fished the pegs to the left of the channel between the two lakes or the big bank opposite.
This venue doesn't suit alot of people due to location but it is worth a visit.
