Hi stan and everyone. Just like to reinforce how lucky we are to be members of a club with such cracking waters. I have had a great start to 2008 with a 11 lb 1 oz barbel from the swale and in febuary a 22 lb 9 oz pike from the ouse . That must match with anywhere in the country for the price of the Leeds book and you don't have to know the father of the golf captain and the bishops mother etc to join. Great stuff Leeds, it's going from strength to strength.

Thanks for the match reports stan - your info on the big roach catches were just what I needed.Had a second double figure pike at 10lb 3 oz yesterday on the ouse along with three other pike and two that slipped the hooks on the way in. Please don't tell me it is almost the end of the season - it is the best time of the year. geoff

well done geoff on your fish, earlier this year i had a 5lb12oz,5lb14oz,6lb1oz and 6lb 2oz all chub off the wharfe in the same session its good at times but its very hit and miss compared to southern rivers, i agree the river fishing on offer on the book is fantastic for specimen chub and unknown barbel but thats only 2 of many species, unfortunatly you cant say we have a up and running mixed specimen stillwater to compete with the modern day specimen stilwaters (properly ran pits and resavoirs) which to me is a loss in revenue to the club as angling is forever changing and more and more anglers are wanting to get set up for a night, enjoy there time on the bank and hope for a memorable fish of there chosen species, there is a stillwater venue in the leeds A.C. book that would easily hold its own against its southern specimen waters, but its in much need of help from leeds A.C. in many different ways, give that place the chance it deserves and with the rivers to boot and then your talking top speci hunting on leeds book. And the thing that would appeal to the thousands of speci's hunters that do the 300 and odd mile round trip every other week, might just start to think "hold on a minute these fish and respected waters are on offer within the leeds book" a balance of help and funding is the way to a happy home but that is in the hands of our leaders, please do your best for us members. cheers .az.

You mentioned two species on your list az what about my 22lb 9 oz pike that is a match for any river in the country? I know it is each to his own but what you say we need in this club does not apply to me. Setting up a bivvy , probably involving as short a walk as possible to get the kitchen sink to the swim and no tricky currents and banks to deal with is not what I appreciate in a fishing session. I have no worries telling people where I catch fish as I am usually the only angler on the bank in midweek. geoff

Top chubbing that az, as Dave Say's I'd be happy with anyone of those in a single session. After my 1st trip to the wharfe a couple of weeks ago i had a go on the nidd last Sunday, didn't tear any trees up but had 3 nice chub to 3lb 7oz. I didn't think that was a bad result considering the conditions- minus 7 overnight followed by bright sunshine allday. thoroughly enjoyed my day tho & will be back for some more very soon. Them chub you had tho are huge fish for anywhere, nevermind what you read in the paper's, well done.

gcb, doing a night does'nt involve a kitchen sink, a simple flask does me! also my brolly is suffice, along with my barrow to get to my chosen swim rather than the car! your obviously unable to relate to the type fishing im on about. but no offence taken as you have assumed me wrong. you cant target specimen tench, bream, roach, perch, rudd, carp and eels when the rivers are closed, and to be honest i dont think specialist's would target running water for them anyway, so where do you go on the leeds book, as i said before there is a stillwater in the book but its in need of help, planning and restocking from the club. An old pike and barbel from a 100% natural self maintaining river only takes rent money, it doesnt take time and effort that it would to create a prime stillwater now thats a challenge and for me thats what i would like to see to create top speci hunting on the leeds book.
