I've just had another look at both photos of the fish. How if the photo was taken in "self portait" mode with no witness has the background moved round slightly?, surely it would stay exactly the same!. More importantly though, I've found the scales on the internet and...they weigh in kg's and not lb's. The graduation is 0.02kg, so the the fish actually weighs about 7lb, bit of a difference in weight...

My fault about the weight conversion. I divided by 2.2 rather than multiplied, and the scales I saw on the 'net kept refering to kg's not lb's. in my opinon though it's not a 16lb fish, nor is it even a double, but again...my opinion

I absolutely agree with your opinion of the weight, just pointing out the errors in your deductions. (same goes for the moving background, the camera could easily have been shifted slightly between photos)

there is no way that tench is anywhere near 16lb. not even a double imo.
you can tell my how big his hands are on its flanks, and his arms are tucked in on the second pic not even shoulder wifth aprt.
what an idiot

i'd give that 7lb to 8lb its a beautiful specimen at that size, and there's no need to exagerate fish sizes as your only lying to yourself and making your p.b's impossible to beat. On the otherhand well done syd on that amazing fish from wintersett shame about the pic though. id slap my mate for being that bad with a camera!! wintersett by far the hardest water to do your tenching well done once again.

I recon your a nice guy, 7 at best! Just look at the picture, the guy must have hands like shovels! If you have seen a big tench then you will understand!

Very harsh, I think that the scales, being digital, and therefore prone to false readings, have got it wrong. Why would the guy make this up, advertise the water, and then later hide the waters id? Doesn't make sense, somethings gone wrong with the scales I reckon. For the record I'd give it 8lb, but pictures can be deceiving.

First of all I would like to thank everyone for their positive comments on my catch of 11lb 6oz. Now then, about this 16lb + tench. I am not saying it is impossible to find a fish of this size in the north, but over the years I have learned a thing or two as a rule of thumb when specimen fishing. This includes carrying a couple of sets of scales, one I keep with me and the other in the car as a back up, a well charged mobile, and a selection of numbers because you never know when you will be lucky enough to need that " phone a friend ". I can't help but compare the photograph of this fish with my catch of 11lb 6oz. To give you an idea of where I am coming from, I am 6ft tall, weigh in at over 17 stone and measure approximately 25 inches across the chest. ( this is obviously half way and not the full girth so no sarcastic comments please! ) As can be seen in my photograph, my fish extends beyond those measurements and has considerable depth. Judging by your photograph I would estimate this fish at around 8lb at best, but that is only MY opinion. Sorry my friend but I think you may have got it wrong this time but if you are sure in your own mind then disclose the venue and give others the opportunity to repeat your success. I am now off to the tackle shop in preparation for a session ay Ryhill on Tuesday. Sidt

Hehehe, I can't really see that happening, can you? if you are/was an angler you'd realise that that tench is not 16lb, nor even a double.
Not really a jealousy thing, more of a reality thing!

Hi Tim. I used a 4ft 18ins pike holding tube as I am not a great lover of sacks.
