Tim there is only one water that I know of on the Leeds book that could potentially produce a fish of that size.
I know of a genuine 9lb plus fish from the said water as I have seen several photos, and I saw one last year of a 9lb 9oz fish, again which appears to be genuine. The only problem I had with verification of that fish was that the photo was taken at night so you could not see where it was caught, but the fish certainly looked to be that size. It could well have been caught at another venue for all I know but I am not doubting the angler cos it was an awesome fish.
But 11lbs plus is a lot harder to believe, I think that probably would be a Yorkshire record. If we are talking about the same venue I hear so many stories of huge tench that hardly any can be true. There are lots of 4, 5 and 6 lb fish in there and the odd 7 but 9, 10 or even 11lb fish are very rare indeed, there or anywhere in Yorkshire.
I hope its true but I think thats a bit of exaggeration perhaps....

Full story in this week angling times.
Great result from a proper Specimen water. Quite abit of spawn on the fish, don't know if it would have made doubles without it.

I read the article on Tuesday night. What a fish! Probably the greatest catch of the year, and to come from a Leeds water, just shows the potential of the fish in the North. Certainly something to be proud of.
Great fishing, Syd, well done!

Hi Julian, just to put the record straight on this fish. My pb tench on Wintersett prior to this catch was 7lb 11oz. When the 11lb 6oz came along I was as surprised as you or anybody else could possibly be. It may help you to know that this was the culmination of over 40 sessions of chasing big tench on this water and a further 6 overnight sessions post catch which has netted 1 tench of 8lb 1oz.
2 years ago a friend of mine caught a tench of 9lb 4oz from the same water and only last night I was informed by another friend that he had banked an 8lb 3oz tench at Wintersett.
I decided to go national to make other tench anglers aware of the potential at Wintersett. Not to win the Drennan or anything else but to let others know that this water can produce specimen fish if the time and commitment is put in.
Finally, the british tench record is 15lb plus and was caught in the south in 2004. I am informed by those who count that while there are no official records, this is believed to be the biggest from northern waters. Should you decide to give this water a go I wish you all the best. Better still, let me know and I will see you there!

Well done indeed Sid, I stand corrected. I never thought that a fish like that would ever turn up, I heard of so many nearly's over the years that you don't know what to believe and what not to believe, but I take my hat off to you that is an awesome fish and worthy of recognition.
What a cracker.
Julian
Sorry with the guest bit but for some reason I can never log in from home...!

I've just had a look at the pictures, but first read the article. It's a good fish, but I don't think it's anywhere near the claimed weight.
It's a shame that there wasn't anyone to witness it.

If you are holding something that heavy you do not have any hand at the side of the scales you have it above them - see photos of scales. miss marple

I asked him some questions about the scales. Apparently the black triangle in the display indicates the reading was 'held' i.e locked for the photo. I also asked about the reading as a full stop to me is a decimal point not a lbs and ozs separator. You figure it out, doesn't make sense to me.
