There are carp EVERYWHERE. The real challenge is finding a water that doesn't hold them.
I haven't personally caught them at Pool but I know people who have. I had a 16-pounder at Wetherby a few years ago and an 8-pounder at Easedike in July. They have been in the tidal Wharfe at least since the 1980s, probably longer. The otters are welcome to them as far as I am concerned!

Just my opinion Archie.
Carp are present at Pool but as Geoff suggests you'll need perseverance or luck (or both) to hook one. You'll probably catch some nice chub while you're trying though.

as an old carp angler of many years, i think its a shame that they are now present in all our rivers, but since they are,why not enjoy catching them?

Fair comment Ged, though personally I would rather catch a proper river fish.

i'm in full agreement with you on that Dave,i like a bit o river fishin as much as the next man,and when you're fishing for big barbel and end up netting a 12 pound carp,it can be a real pain.Unless they can be eradicated from our river systems, we'll just have to put up with them. For any body who does like catching carp, some rivers are throwing up some big carp, most of which are willing to feed all winter long and provide a bit of sport. It would be nice to go back to the days when carp were less widespread, and only fished for by a dedicated minority, unfortunately we cannot turn back the clock and now the modern carp angler is here to stay, and the carp is now reduced to being nothing more than a netfiller or an excuse to put your face into some second rate magazine, publicity for the shallow minded as they head towards the next hobby,as soon as they acheive their 'target' or get bored, the bivvy, the baitboat and the boilies are 'for sale',all thats left is a pile of beer cans for the real anglers to shift, and a reputation which grows worse with time

Carp are now widespread on the Wharfe, they are the sorce of many a monster barble tail, the one that got away an all that....... A more sinister side to there presence is the amount of fish they dissplace, one 20lb carp is eating 20lb's of food that in my opinion would be better off inside the barble and chub. Pike carnt eat them so in a way they are beyond the food chain yet they can take from it, parasite is a word that comes to mind. They have been cought to over 30lb on the lower Wharfe. I've cought them from places you would think only a barble or a trout/salmon would be, they are TOO adaptable for our native spieces to deal with. I'm with you Dave, fekin vermin.

ged,i have fished for over 40 years now.started as a junior with this club, fishing with the likes of wilf day, bob whitworth, and many more on the match side of the club.i love my river fishing and carp fishing, but i object to your comment that all carp anglers leave rubish.my lad and i have plenty of times gone up and down the banks collecting other peoples rubish.you carnt class all carp anglers the same.
