cheers gedthespread,it sounds a bit heavy duty for a bit of pleasure fishing, but Iwill probably give it at least one shotin the close season, maybe some of the silverfish have thrived on the neglect. I can only blank, which is the probable outcome on the ouse tomorrow

they caught 4 in total over 30, they caught some others but i didnt take a right lot of notice. On one of the 3 days sessions they did get 2 out over 30.
They put alot of time in, not my cup of off tea to sit there for months and to catch about 5-6 fish.
i fished it about 4 years ago, 5 weekends on the trot from april onwards. Only ever saw 2 others anglers they were both after pike.
But i did lots of small fish rising of the bar on the dam wall side

How big is the half a tail fish these days? Isnt there a fish called the bionic in there? I always thought that was a 30, unless its dropped back down.

half tail is the only fish that is a definate 30 and could be anything round mid 30's,not sure about the bionic, don't think it's been out for a while so could be any size

Well it must be nearly 20 years ago but when I was local to the lakes a regular with an inflatable boat would row out & drop buckets of hemp in from the point or over in the west end shallows & follow with baits & sit it out. He got some but wouldn`t like to swear to weights. It was a long job. For modern `carpers` raised on the `muddy `ole` type of fishery it would be torture.

that fish was called humpy or something similar,29 pound 12ounces,never reached 30,it was me who dug the grave for that fish when it died, very sad business having to bury a fish like that.Fish of that size were thin on the ground back then and was one of the most wanted fish in the yorkshire area at that time.

The guy to talk on Wintersett is just into small easy carp on the Leeds/Bradford no1 waters these days but you can't mistake him (2 Mk1 Armas, 55s and original Delkims). He caught a dozen or so big carp from there in the mid 80's all on huge yellow Enervite/Milk P over Hemp, Groats and Peanuts. I always see him and I spoke with him last week in Bobco's about it. He said its pointless going there nowadays when other local venues are much easier and the fish are probably bigger? Seems like wise advice but he said 2-3 days of strong south east winds in Aug/September were the best chance of fish around haw park lane up from boat house area 75-100 yds from bank where the weed used to thin out? Had all but 3 fish there in ideal conditions.

HI just seen the message, i carp fished wintersett for approx 5 years about 15 years ago. there was about 6 anglers in total that put in a lot of time, and we caught most of the carp plus the bream, i fished most weekends and would put at least 2 nights in mid week if fish located. i would fish april to end of oct.my biggest fish was half tail at 29.10 and had pugsly a common at 27.08 and about 20 other 20s, we estimated stock to be about 100 carp at that time. i pulled off due to repeated captures and having caught my target fish, the biggest fish in this venue was a fish called fat b*****d and came out at 35lb but passed away approx 15 years ago.its nice to hear half tail still alive.follow the wind and they loved the weed. lots of time, effort, patience and bait required for this great water, some great looking fish though. hope this helps anyone. regards rich

don't think there is anywhere near that amount of fish in it now you would have to be nut to fish it now or not bothered about catching fish of any sort good luck
