HI just seen the message, i carp fished wintersett for approx 5 years about 15 years ago. there was about 6 anglers in total that put in a lot of time, and we caught most of the carp plus the bream, i fished most weekends and would put at least 2 nights in mid week if fish located. i would fish april to end of oct.my biggest fish was half tail at 29.10 and had pugsly a common at 27.08 and about 20 other 20s, we estimated stock to be about 100 carp at that time. i pulled off due to repeated captures and having caught my target fish, the biggest fish in this venue was a fish called fat b*****d and came out at 35lb but passed away approx 15 years ago.its nice to hear half tail still alive.follow the wind and they loved the weed. lots of time, effort, patience and bait required for this great water, some great looking fish though. hope this helps anyone. regards rich I COULD BE WRONG... but I used to remember fishing alongside a guy called Andy Pratt (about 15 years ago) I think he had something to do with Nutrabaits, possibly a field tester. Anyway I reckon he was the last person to catch FAT B*****D at 35lb before it died, I'm not 100% on where it was caught but the bay on the field side near road seems about right. I think he also went on to catch half tail at around 29lb not too long after. I'm sure I have some photos of these 2 fish. If anyone is interested I could post them Tel

I fished the place in the summer of 2005 for the tench - due to the tench water I fish in Cheshire being closed at the time.
I did most of my fishing off the dam wall. I quickly realised that heavy groundbaiting put the tench off (they would not swim over the baited area in daylight - probably should have blackened the groundbait).
Used soft red pellet in an open end feeder to sandwich some maggots/casters. Fished at about 30 meters clipped up using 2 rods and recast 1 rod every 30 minutes.
The first tench I had went 8lb 5oz (spawned out). I caught up to 4 tench in early morning sessions of about 4-6 hrs duration. I got away with fishing 18 hook to 3.6lb hooklength (minimal weed at that time). The average weight of the tench was over 6lb. All I caught were tench - did hook a carp but didn't have much chance on the gear I was using. If there had been any bream or roach about I would have caught them with the set up I was using.
Not fished it since as I have access to excellent tench fishing on much easier waters in the NW and Midlands Regions which run to 11lb.

I'm somewhat conflicted by this post. Part of me wants to respect all the effort the regulars put into finding their fish and catching what they have. But another part of me, looking at this from the club side, wants many more members choosing to fish Wintersett to justify its cost to the society. In the past the club has given up waters because they thought they were under used, and the money could be better spent elsewhere. Only to to come in for criticism from a number of regulars who had been fishing the venue, but keeping all results to themselves to avoid "competition". BOF

you may be waiting a long time, most of the guys who fish it tend to concentrate on their own fishing and beside that, theres not a lot to know apart from theres lots of water and not many original fish in there,if you like catching loads of fish then this isnt the place.Try being a bit more specific about what you want to know and you may get an answer.
