Frim, would go with the ide, look identical to the ones we catch on the Villane in Brittany. only other possibilty is a chub/roach hybrid and you rarely see those. for a good fish id site try this www.Fishbase.org

Definitely ide, and I'll stick my neck out and say the crucian in the photo is actually a brown goldfish.

There was a lengthy debate on the York Amalgamation website about crucian/goldfish recognition:-
http:/www.ydaa.org.uk/ydaaforum/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=
This included a link to a Fishing Magic thread complete with photos - unfortunately it now appears to have been deleted.
I know you probably won't take my word for it Mr Knowbody, but I would stake my life on the Kippax fish being something other than a true crucian - I'm that confident.
(If you are struggling with the link - I can't get it to work - go to the YDAA forum and select YDAA Waters - Stillwaters - page 2 and look for the thread entitled Rawcliffe Red-letter Day)

I get were your coming from Dave, officially there are no true crusions left outside of yately? The colour of the fish together with the stock size say's to me it's "lets say" more crusion than goldfish I know a pond in Kent were 2lb'ers are a dissapointment. A never stocked pond, but you would have to kill one for glory Not for me.

I actually caught 1 of these fish and said i think its an ide.but ive caught ide upto 4lb for years and the colour and shape was not quite right for an ide, this 1 i got had a bronze appearance to it. Just felt there might have been a bit of interbreeding in these fish.

And I'm with you in that I would never kill a fish just to prove a point. However, the photo of the Kippax fish shows certain features that are just not right for a pedigree crucian, for example the overslung mouth (on a crucian the mouth is underslung, reminiscent of a rudd). A photo of a true cru would explain everything and if I wasn't such a technophobe I might have attempted to download one.

I've caught small crusions in a pond in selby, you could get them if you ran a landing net through the weed!

These look like nase to me. I caught some when I served in Germany many years ago. Just looked on google and they could well be. It would take a proper scale count to be sure.
