The fly lake is not ideal for netting, lots of weed etc making it hard for the lead lines to work properly, but the results were good considering more escaped than we banked. All the trout that went back were mint, but unfortunatly we did get a number of rotten carcasses that were trapped in the weed. There were no coarse fish dead and the results will have a few of us looking in reference books. First sweep if they are all true crucians we must be one of the few places in the north with this kind of spawning success. We used net heads to grade the fish and one or two were diferent but what?

Are they the same. Some are at least a couple of years older than others.

what did you do with the coarse fish? did you put them back in the trout lake , or use them as stock fish for the other two lakes?

A few selected fish were used as stock fish, we have to follow ea guides as far as consents etc so no fish can be removed from site.

This is a true crucian, caught from a pond on Kevin Clifford's property and verified by the man himself. Distinguishing the species from hybrids and brown goldfish is a minefield. Some of the fish in the photos from Kippax could well be pedigree crucians but I would not stake my life on it!
