I've never caught 1 but would love to. I live near tadcaster and have heard there are a few to go at but not sure how or where would be the best place to start please could someone point me in the right direction. I'm a bit rusty with the old river fishing as I've been into carp fishing for the last 10 years or so. what sort of tackle and stuff would I need? would a light carp rod and 12lb line be OK, would a static approach or mobile approach be better. Thanks for the help

try topcliffe, helperby, linton[wharfe] or hammerton,or even taddy bottom.use lunchy, lobworms, sweetcorn, halibut pellets, cheese, bunch of maggots or casters.fish at evening best time, tackle ok just be patient and persistent you get one eventually

hi jb, all of the above, all of these tactics and areas will have there day. some swear by the mobile approach though it has never worked for me, so most of my fishing is bait and wait, but whichever you enjoy most is the way to go. there are barbel all along the wharfe from its confluence with the ouse up as far poole although they are quite scarce that far up, but if you live near tadcaster you can't be far from what many consider to be the epicentre of yorkshire barbeling, boston spa, a day ticket water that produces good numbers of fish and also some very big barbel. let us know where you try and how you get on, if you would like any more info just let me know and i'll do my best to help, cheers, leon

Don't forget a good helping of hemp, James. Tacktics wise, I'd go for an avon rod and 10/12lb line running ledger, or swim feeder with maggots and casters. I used to fish on the Wharfe at Linton for a few hours on an evening, had some good fish out there too. All the best pal

with work and 1 thing and another I've not had chance to give it a go. I now work in boston Spa and will be working split shifts so theres a good chance I'll be heading down the wharfe for a few sessions next year
