Hello Stan.
Now the Ouse seems to have a few roach in it again, it might be time to fly back and have a go.....Does anyone want to swap me a couple of 130lb game rods for a few sliders.....?
Just read your report from the cornwall festival Stan......very informative, but I didn't understand a word of it.......whats a carp?

Thanks mate.
I haven't seen Baz for about 3 years....I know he comes over here occasionally 'cos he's usually spotted by someone. I'll have to give him a call. Tell you what mate, I don't miss those flooded rivers one bit! Chucking a lobby in, anchored to a 2oz weight, and then sitting there for 5 hours.....10 years was enough for me!
I noticed the same old faces are still doing the business in Yorkshire..Vic, Bill, Jim, Ian Bates, Trevor Hewitt...There's no substitute for class!
I do a bit of game fishing over here and it's like being on a different planet. Best day so far was 10 marlin to about 300lbs. You should see them go....they make barbel seem pretty tame by comparison. I chartered a boat to fish off the barrier reef for 3 days a couple of years ago, and managed to get one around 700lbs. When it jumped at the side of the boat, I nearly crapped myself.....I didn't know fish that big existed. That was the highlight of my fishing career by far....even better than winning a match at Dunsforth.
Regarding the carp...yeah, they're regarded as vermin over here! You can buy them at any fishmongers, but I don't bother. They're very popular with the chinese apparently. they're not small fish that they sell either, usually around 8-10lbs. If you catch one here, you can be fined if you throw it back.
Think is, no one fishes the rivers and lakes very much, so there could be anything in them. The big thing at the moment is fly fishing at sea, the Aussies are really into it - there are three or four monthly magazines devoted to it. They even catch Marlin on the fly! Not sure they flies are what we know though.....I think they just glue some feathers to a dead tuna...
Anyway, thats all from your Aussie correspondent for now. I might take the dogs down the beach now.....Hope you empty the Aire & Calder.
Say hi to Barbara and anyone else out there.
Last thing, do you have Hally's phone number?
Cheers
Neil
