Hi Stan
I don't do a lot of fishing at all to be honest.....the game fishing is so expensive that it's at least 6 months between trips.....
There is a mob here called Sydney Coarse Anglers.....thats how I found this web site...they have a link to you! Im a mortgage broker, and one of my clients fishes with them. Apparently they're all pommies and they have matches like England. They get all their gear sent over from England, they can get maggots sent up from Melbourne, and off they go...
They have matches on the various rivers and lakes around Sydney. To be honest, there aren't many that don't have seawater in them, so I think they have to travel a fair bit.
Trouble is, most of the rivers and lakes as we know them are all over run with what they call "european carp" and most of the other fish have disappeared. Sounds a bit like England actually....haha!
I'll give you a report on what they actually get up to once I've joined them. I need to get Baz to send my gear out, although I might need a few new hooks!
Seafishing is hotting up at the moment, as the gulfstream is about 25 miles off Sydney.....marlin time! Also big Tiger sharks. Someone had a 4 metre Tiger take a fish off the line in the harbour last week......and people swim in there!
I'll send another repor soon mate....If it's longer than 3 weeks, you'll know I've got drunk and gone for a night swim in the harbour and ended up as shark nuts.
Hope the fishing stays good over there.
The fugitive

Hi Stan
The link was on the Sydney website for some reason, but it doesn't seem to be there anymore..but if you type "sydney coarse angling" into google, some of the sites have lists of all the clubs in and around Sydney.
If I end up joining this mob, I'll give them the address of the Leeds website. They're all pommies apparently, so there might be someone there that you know.
Just back to the gamefishing, if anyone fancies it, and the flight doesn't put them off.....I can arrange the boat and stuff, and they could stay with me for a while. It would give me an excuse to go a bit more, as the wife thinks I spend too much on it as it is!
Hey Steve, not just the hooks mate...everything was rusty. Especially me on the saturday matches after the friday night session. If I could have stayed in a bit more, I might have been some good......
Have to go now....Rex is starting on TV.....haha
Keep in touch
Neil

It had to happen.....
I've been here for 7 years now, and not so much as a scratch, apart from the odd mozzie bite.
You boys probably won't have seen it over there, but there was beach cricket on over here on saturday featuring 3 legends teams....Engalnd, Auatralia and West Indies.
Me and a couple of mates went. TO cut a long story short, it got a bit boring so we went to the beer tent. The temperature was 30 ish so after a couple of drinks me and one of the boys went for a swim.
About 5 minutes in, I had a massive shooting pain up my left armand thought the worst......I looked down and there was a bluebottle jellyfish wrapped round it. The tentacles are about 3 feet long, and they have a stinger about every 5 millimetres so in trying to untangle it I managed to get it wrapped round the other arm too, and I'm getting stung all over the place... Remember that Im in the sea, and its pretty rough....I managed to get it off me just in time for a wave to wash it back onto me....bastardo!
Imagine a wasp sting and then times it by about 50.......the stings go down my left arm about 8 inches and around the right arm..... If I'd have been on my own, a crying session might have been in order!
I went back to the beer tent to see the boys and if they'd got any idea's (being Aussies). The general opinion was not to be soft and not to bother putting anything on it as the pain only lasts about 2 hours!
The latest is...its now wednesday morning here and the stings are still easily visible.....and apparently they leave scars! Giddy up!
If anyone still fancies coming over..........
See you later
Neil
PS Bluebottles aren't the worst by any means....the Box Jellyfish and the Irukandji Jellyfish both kill ya! Might stay at home next week and go in the pool.

Hi,
I was in Oz last year, I got stung by a bluebottle a few times whilst snorkelling (managed to get it on the cheek, and on the ear, as well as on both arms), they do hurt a bit.
Have you sprayed vinegar on it? all the snorkelling/diving boats carry it on-board to deal with the stings, it takes the pain away fairly quickly.

Hi Steve....yeah I know the one tentacled things youre talking about.....I once got bitten by a faulty one and it cost me a wedge in child support......
Latest report from Oz......Not a lot happened in the past week or so apart form us winning the cricket.
It rained for about 5 days in sydney and the surrounding areas, which is big news as the whole of New South Wales is in drought. Trouble is, it's just like England. You watch all this rain fall, everywhere gets flooded....then in 3 days its all run out to sea, and you're still in drought.
In better news, I've had the green light from the wife to have a day game fishing. About 2and a half hours drive north of Sydney is a place called Port Stephens. its famous for a pod of about 80 dolphins that hang around in the bay, and there are about 6 dolphin watch boats that are full (usually of japanese tourists) every day.
If you go past the dolphins, and head about 30 miles out to sea, to the continental shelf, there are lots of marlin at this time of year. Current reports are saying that gameboats are catching (tag and release) around 6 per day. I'm just about to try and book a day (or 2) in the next couple of weeks. As the marlin aren't too big up there,(200-300 pound) a lot of guys fight them standing up rather than in the game chair. Pretty exciting stuff....
Is there any way you can attach pictures to these messages, as I have a few shots of fish if anyone's interested?
Last thing Stan....Do you have Steve Halls home number? I had it and lost it.
OK guys have to go now
I'll try and give you an update every week or so, or more often if something exciting happens. (Cronulla riots, shootings, it rains etc)
Neil
PS Whats going on with the Ouse? It sounds great......don't worry boys, you all know it won't last......Another 12 months and you'll be back to blaming water temperature, water colour, cormorants, pesticides......ah, happy days!

Hey Stan, is there any truth in this rumour that you're going into the underwater exploration business?
In Aussie News.....niot a lot happening at present!
It's still raining, which is good...but the cold water isnt helping the fishing, especially the warm water species.
Talking of underwater exploration, I've booked a holiday to Cairns in June, so lots of diving to be done...I got my certified diver ticket when I first got here, and it's the best thing I've done. Some of the things you see are amazing, especially over here....
Me and one of the guys are thinking of going off on a boat early next year to do some great white dives, in the cage of course!
Will still be pretty cool, although I might have to take a spare wetsuit, in case I crap myself when the first big feller comes along....
Ive swum with the reef sharks before, but they're pretty tame compared to the white pointers....
OK boys, thats it for now!
Marlin fishing in 2 weeks, soI'll have a report on how that goes, although it's gone a bit qiuet in the last week or so...i think the cold water has moved them (even) further offshore
Cheers
Neil
