Thank you for reading this and giving your advice.
I have never fly fished but I'm looking for a new challenge so i thought i would take it up not being interested in game fishing i thought i could have a go at fly fishing for course fish on the rivers and canals in our area.
What i require from you is the type of tackle i will need as i don't know which way to turn. Take rods what length and weight will i need, which reel, what is backing then i guess we have fly lines and leaders all a mystery and finally there are the flies. I know we have one or two experienced fly fishers on here and hopefully you can point me in the right direction. If any of you know of any good sites to visit for tutorials they would also be appreciated.
thank you Den

Thank you frim i watched numerous videos on u tube but it took joining a fly fishing forum to start getting the right advice as to what rod and reel weight combination to go for now just got to find a retailer with the right tackle at the right place. for anyone who might be interested it was recommended rod/reel was a 3# running 3# or 2# flyline with 7 foot of 10lb flouro with 3 foot of 2lb flouro to the fly. www.flyforums.co.uk/

Den I would be happy to show you the ropes-techniques, tackle needed ,rivercraft etc. I have rods and set ups you can try before you buy and knowledge of catching on the fly on stillwaters and rivers in yorkshire. You can't learn this branch of fishing from you tube I'm afraid. We have big open spaces in harrogate if you want some casting tuition. I will will get you a fish on the fly -all for a few beers- pm me if you want a go. Lots of members seem keen to try fly fishing - give me a pm I'm sure we can sort out something. You need to try the less demanding stillwaters before you try the rivers. geoff

The advice you have been given re rod and line choice is not good I'm afraid. In fact it is utter rubbish . I have flyfished for coarse fish since the early 80s and am happy to share advice - pm me if you need
