I have been going through years of posts on knotford and read a lot of historic threads on here to try and learn as much as possible. I found when the water was manured 2007 (general board 51 trouble at knotford thread) and I believe it was on the advice of dr. Bruno Broughton, a specialist in fisheries management. The plant and transport used were I think donated by a Leeds member, the same guy who did the work to repair the bank, if I am not mistaken. I think I read it was also endorsed by the E.A. But was supposed to be a 6 year program, but I haven't fond anymore reference to it after the first year and as graham said he doesn't know why it stopped. But what I did pick up was pretty much the same debate was going on 7 years ago and we are still looking for a clear concept for knotfords future. I think if we had a proper plan in place to at least sort the state of the banks, bailiff and keep the place tidy, improve some of the swims, consider some form of control of the weed( and I did say consider, not definitely) and get maybe a limited stocking policy planned. Get a work party organised and work over the winter we could be on our way for an improved venue in the new year. Would be nice to have some grass in place of the mud next spring. Ps. This includes continuing northfaces path too.

Do none of you think that these things have been tried before? Don't you think that everything that could have been done to turn knotford into a water suitable for match fishing has been done before - well it has. It has resisted all the blue dye, straw in the margins etc that you could throw at it. And guess what - bless it! it has resisted everybody that has tried to change it. Leave it as it is - if you are going to tweak anything a slow influx of silvers is all that is required in addition to preventing horses trampling everywhere and getting back to the meadow that we used to walk through to fish for the quality bream and tench. We used to like to fish it for the fabulous surroundings and quality fish. The decision to admit horses - again I suspect for additional monies- was the death knell for anglers using the water as much as they used to. Some tlc and assistance to those already trying to improve the water will bring the members back.

Who's suggesting changing the nature of the water, not a word about making it into a match style venue Geoff. I thought you would be pleased to have the horses paddocked off, grass instead of mud and a path maybe. Looking at simple improvement to the venue to make it more usable and maybe some fish if needed/wanted, will listen to the anglers on that one. And I will add the anglers on there have already started some of this work themselves, if we can get the club moving and help why not.

I wrote "Some tlc and assistance to those already trying to improve the water will bring the members back" so why did you write "And I will add the anglers on there have already started some of this work themselves" do you read previously posts? Eddie believe me - in the past they did want it to be their commercial type water - but gave in! thankfully p.s think spaceboy and northface talk a lot of sense about the water.

Geoff, I know they have I have spent a long time reading everything I could find on the forum about the place this afternoon. Sorry about repeating part of your post, I don't think it fully uploaded on my phone, but I think in this case we are saying the same things. Hopefully we will have some representation on the general purpose committee soon as well as the fisheries management, so we can take anglers concerns to the heart of Leeds and push for some action. Believe me Geoff Leeds are actually just as keen to sort this out too.
