Hi all
I fished knotford a number of years ago and had a fair few decent sized fish out.
Every bream i had was 10lb or over and the tench were 5/6lb+
I never actually caught any carp but i am sure they are in there?
What size do most average and are carp actually caught, if so what size?
Looking at getting my leeds ticket again and probably a night ticket for the lake but just wanted to know what was in.
Cheers
Craig

Craig, pulled this from another page that you might have missed, just give you a general idea of whats gone on over the years.
Just reading some old posts regarding Knotord got me looking through some of our records and answer a few questions, hope its of interest. The kill mentioned in other Thread happened Jan/ April 1999, it was not just fish but reports by local ornithologist suggested several dead gulls and ducks plus mice and frogs, Dr Bruno Broughton visited and wrote a full report May 1999, it was not conclusive but mentioned the discharge pipe, the carp population becoming too large, unshed eggs, and a viral infection, he also stated that though the EA were initially reluctant to test the water, samples had been taken and "verbally" confirmed they were not contaminated ! Strange that because both me and Steve Raper spent days that spring clearing dead fish of all species, we were not involved with Leeds officials at that time but they were there too and we all agreed the water was dead. Got some more info here that's interesting reading.

Have a look at the above stocking lists, the place should be full of fish particularly plenty of carp. But if it isn't the comment about the the fish kill and discharge pipe are interesting. What is also worth noting, it had 14 tonnes of manure Put in. What was the thinking or need for this, an attempt to colour the water, to get some life in the lagoon? Surely it wasn't to promote weed growth!

More colour, less light, less weed

after the manure went in the place fished brilliantly, roach of all sizes and tench could be caught within pole range, unfortunately if you stop putting the manure in you may risk a weed explosion, the same thing happened on the yorkshire copperworks pond in stourton years ago. incidently, i know its a secret society down there, but i have heard from a reliable source that in the last couple of months the carp record has gone there with a32lb fish, and someone caught a 16lb+ bream, that is some fish

Hi Eddie
Yes I believe it did but these things need to be kept up to and i can't remember why it wasn't.
Here's another thought why not line the right hand bank with yellow clay!

Well it might seem simplistic, and assuming it wouldn't put off the specimen anglers on there now, why not do as graham suggests with the clay maybe, but at least throw a few tonnes of manure in, seems to have a positive affect on the water and minimum cost. I know it's not all about penny pinching and the club could spend some money on stock, but no reason to ignore the simple answers. Maybe combined with some stock. Ps. Before someone says who's going to volunteer for the work party needed, you can put my name down for one.

Barley straw cuts algae
But it's all a load of bollocks really
Horse manure full to brim of nutrients fertiliser,,, it only helps stuff grow
Plus the zebra muclses filter the water at 1 litre an hour per muscle
There will be 5000 billion in there pmsl

The manure bring algae which then bring a daphnia bloom. They do this when farming carp for the table instead of pellet feed. I think thats thr process
