Eddie not first time I've been caught SHORT chasing a carp When it comes to landing my prize I'll do anything 3 smashed phones .... Smashed £450 rod reel setup slung so I can hit a screaming run,,,, my pals don't fish near me when I'm on it lol they fear what I may throw to hit a run,,,, This cheeky little lady tried wrapping me round a tree it was get in or loose fish turned out to be a nice 17lb common Also Eddie few tippes when tackling a new water pal best to find the fish first rather than the features,,, you may map the full lake out,,, bet then turn up to fish the place and see 20-30 carp crashing other side of the lake,,, when I'm chancing it on a lake I look for the carp/fish first and usually cast a bare lead i em near them,,, then have a feel around,,,, and slip a rig over then with a few scatterings of bait,,,, Best to have a rig in 30 mins in the right place rather than 24 hour in the wrong place,,,, Best time to hit them come spring when they wake up and start showing use a salty spod mix as they crave salt when in pre spawn deadly Surly. Mapping out swims and recording your findings on a new water before you fish is the best way to go about it. When you turn up to the lake and see fish you will know what features are there and don't have to bother casting leads about less disturbance and your bait in the water quickly

What if you only have the day to fish the place Never mapped a water out in my life,,,, I usually turn up walk the water look for sighns of fish and features islands trees,,,, topping crashing carp,,,, and I head for there,,,, I have a quick lead about never known this to spook my swim,,, clip up and cast in,,, few baits around and jobs good But then again I fish 30 or so different waters so recording all that info would be a task,,,, if you only fish 1 water then maybe it's worth it,,, but for me it isn't,,,,,

Firstly Id buy a pack a durex Failing that winter vitalin and pigeon conditioner £30 for 40 kgs knocked up with hot water you'll have 80kgs more than enough to make your own island Or I use hull particle prepared baits 30kg prepared bait,,, for £20 great baits if you don't have time to prepare your own

Had my walk round knotford today, well halfway at any rate when I bumped into northface, I new it would be worth having a chat with him! I already new some of the features, depths etc. But northface kindly filled in the grey areas and pointed out a couple of snags worth knowing the location of. Cheers for that, very helpful. Had a chat with the bailiff too which was well worth while. After today though I might just get started a bit sooner!!
Eddie.
