So as I've mentioned, I only started fishing again properly last August.
We started with a long weekend in Boroughbridge aiming for chub/barbel ... but only catching perch and ruffe instead!
That weekend we had a few delays in starting out and made it to Boroughbridge just after the tackle shop had closed on the Saturday, but I pleaded through the door using the international sign language for "we've come all the way from Leeds and we'll have no fishing this weekend if you don't take pity on us for a bit of end tackle, bait, day tickets & advice" (I'm good at sign language).
So anyway as I was about to pay I asked what baits were working best for barbel in his favourite peg that he'd recommended me, and he pointed to some boilies .... these pallatrax squabs

it was me last item of about 15 things I got off him, and was a bit rushed, so it was only after I realised they were really hard, and the baiting tools I had weren't right for them (they just need a nice sharp needle). Anyway, cos it said "Carp" on the packet I just put them aside and forgot about them. Maybe a good thing 'cos if we hadn't been mainly on worm for the next 3 days we might have blanked with the many perch we caught.
Just found the £5 packet of squabs now at the back of me bait fridge and they still look and smell like the day I bought them.... and I look at the packet and realise I spent a fiver there so I want to use them somehow.
I suppose it could have been a mistake and I could have picked up different ones from the ones the shop owner pointed to, as I was in a rush and so was he ... it does say 'carp' on the packet and doesn't seem like a very barbelly flavour to me ... when I googled them just now they do come up on "barbelfishing-uk.com" ... but on this promotional clip they are definitely all about carp www.youtube.com/watch?v=pTRfeVQzVi0
So I just wanted to ask if anyone's ever tried and had success with tiger nut / peanut flavour baits for chub or barbel ?? I might even cook them down and re-constitute them to make a softer bait with other added ingredients.
I'm not a native Yorkshireman but I'm as tight as Jimmy's lines in a Thai pond and £5 is a lot of money to me these days (redundancy was quite good for the first year or two but after that it has its drawbacks)!
