Just wondering if anyone has had a carp outta sett this year yet? Starting to see quite a few fish tekkin off top last knockings on an evening on roadside of big bay. Also seen a couple of good fish rolling tight in margins on woodside. Not done owt miself yet, the fish seem to be very spooky else im just a noisy bugger!

can't answer the question but had a walk round there for the first time today and saw just one car & bivvy this evening on the banks on the distant horizon opposite the dam wall. Just wanted to ask, though - I noticed a sign about blue-green algae but only at Cold Heindley dam wall - is this an issue on the main reservoir too in the summers and what precautions need to be taken? PS - The Angler's Retreat pub - classic - don't get many like that these days can see why it got a wakefield CAMRA award a couple of years back (though at the same time that doesn't say much for the pubs round Wakefield generally)

Ive never seen carp taking off the top at sett but would love to try catch one off the surface there. Don't think owt has been out yet as its still very early for there. There was only a handful out all last year but it was not fished as much as normal. Cold heindley does get bad algae blooms. Wintersett does get algea so id not let ur dog drink it. It needs more lads fishing it as it will Financially un viable for leeds. It would be a real shame if this happened as its a big park of Yorkshire carpings history. It still has real potential with its young growing stock and handful of old originals

Done 6 blanks so far I fished saturday night and sunday morning dint catch owt got plauged by birds int wood moved onto dam had a couple of takes on black zigs to the right of outlet just to right of no.2 bouy. Fishin in about 10ft there were 2 other lads did saturday night on the half moon dunno if they had owt. Iv spent a lot of time walkin round sett this winter id say iv seen probly 15 fish about 5 being carp some tight into margins in the reeds and some about 30-40yds owt on gravel/rockline nowt massive mid doubles but seen them in various areas of lake. Main problem i have is bait application owt i put in draws the tufties n coots rolled 10kg ccmoore ody30 and blacked em up and they still bloody find them hahaha Love it down their, they'd call it catching not fishing if it was easy!

Did u land the two takes u had on zigs? Ive had tufties in 18ft of water in the middle of the night so there is not a lot u can do. There are less birds in the sumner so it should get easier.

I had a couple of good seasons on there pre stockies. I'm told that stevie wonder passed away after surpassing half tail as the biggest fish.
Even though I'd done my time on their I had mixed feelings about the stockies but the old originals aren't going to last forever so guess they were needed. I found quite a few sulking in the reeds not long after they were stocked

They'll mostly be mid 20's soon then who knows all those fish will hold the same relevance as the originals. Defo right thing to do.

Few are already mid 20s northface but would i want 10 stockies or 1 good original give me the original everytime but like you say the old ones wont last forever so yes fresh stocks where necessary but same relevance as originals no they will always be stockies to me but still nice fish to catch while waiting for one of them old girls to come along.

Wow nice to actually see some pics of the carp in there cheers lads! it all seems to be very hush hush about the place usually. And no dint land 2 takes on zigs, hooks were a bit small maybe? Haha
