New to this site .I'm interested to know if there are angling clubs that still actually fish matches on rivers these days, and if so a list of angling clubs within the city would be helpful. Thanks.

Sorry, what I meant by the question was that ,you don't seem to hear of local angling clubs also ive been to some venues on leeds books and the banks are over grown and don't look like they've been visited in years.

Thanks and sorry to be a pain. Whooaa . . Patience Carton boy . . It's a fishing Forum you've joined not a bleedin call centre The answer to your question is yes there's about 40 clubs affiliated to Leeds who match fish on a regular basis. And yes , the river venues are overgrown but there's a good few of us who love it that way , especially Jimmy Silverfish Fulla. We've got a working party to clear the banks at Skip Bridge on 16 May . . You sound like a willing volunteer . . . Shall I put you down mate . . Good day out and get to meet a few of the lads before we go on the annual beer appreciation outing at the New Penny in Leeds. Meanwood Nige treating us all

The rivers are under fished because too many anglers -
- only fish for F1s in puddles - can't be arsed to walk more than 50 yards - don't know how to fish rivers - have mistakenly convinced themselves that Poles , Cormorants and Otters have taken all the fish - if they fish rivers at all target barbel only and fish like idiots with gear that would land a blue shark - are incapable of fishing other than from a perfectly level platform with no trees or vegetation within ten yards
Despite the above gloom and doom don't tell anybody,but...... the rivers still fish really well!

Well said Grayson! I love the fact that no one bothers with the rivers, peace n quiet and plenty of room to fish as you wish. The problem with matches on middle and upper reaches of rivers is they're too peggy. A few people will catch, the rest will struggle. The fish are there, just not as spread out as they used to be.

It's always been peggy - no change there. That's what you get when you have a natural environment with changing levels, flow rates, colour and natural features . For any commercial anglers 'features' means trees, undercut banks etc not bloody aerators...

Hey Grayson , don't you be getting all sarcastic on us , you're the voice of reason on here By the way , are you coming on our match on the 26th ? I seem to recall you saying you would join us next time
