Seeing as Rustys thread got hijacked and locked out I wondered what course of action you guy's would follow if you come across a non member fishing ? I'm not sure what my actions would be or what the official stance is but I'm intrigued as to what others would do. #nodeckingpicturesrequired Mick.

Fishing a clubs waters without a book or ticket is actually classed as theft! I would ask the angler to leave and point out he is open to prosecution.

I think I would phone Brent and ask him to nip down and assess the situation for me I honestly don't think I would chance asking someone to leave . . Think I'd just point out it is private water and the EA patrol it regular . . . Or some other pathetic excuse to avoid a confrontation and potential death

Surely it's classed as trespass not theft After all what are they actually stealing? I think stormchaser has just answered that for me, but it's true, it is an actual offence and calling the police is the final option, as Chris says if you want to pursue it that far. He was also right in his previous post on the locked thread about the importance of approaching an angler with care and regard to his peg etc. I think that the fact you are likely to have your book checked on a regular basis would start to put poachers off. Officially if someone claims to be a member who has forgotten their book they can continue fishing, but must either, prove their identity, or have a member with a book vouch for them. They then get a ticket to produce their book at the membership office within 5 days and their details are recorded on the ticket copy. If non of the above are possible they should be asked to leave. If it's an ordinary member checking books what can you do? You certainly aren't allowed to use force to remove someone and have to think carefully about asking juniors or intermediates to leave venues as you could place them in a dangerous situation, if say dropped off by a parent. Watchers can also retain members books in certain circumstances, that should be interesting telling someone you are taking their £50 plus book off them!!!

its all in the way you approach them if your aggressive they will be straight on the offensive if your calm and talk civil to them its much easier if they have no book ask them questions about the club and waters they fish they will soon slip up if not a member ...
