Getting through a lot of hemp at the moment, and and it's still going to be about 6 weeks before Aldi stock it and then knock it down to do £1 a bag again - my frozen supplies from last year are running low. have now officially run out!
My main factor in bait choice is always price - need a cheap bulk supply.
Where do you get your bulk supplies? Eddie (when you're back) or anyone else?

Nige I looked on line cheapest I found was £25 for 15kg + £5 postage this is raw, so when you add in the hassle of cooking it its not that cheap plus the pan you use won't be usable for anything other than cooking hemp. We used to cook ours in a pressure cooker as it was much quicker and you could get 56lb bag for next to nowt that was until it became a health food. I blame Holland & Barrett.

I've just got 25kg from Lee at Hull Partcle. Ready cooked no messing about. Comes in 5 kg bags so just break it down onto 1 kg bags when it arrives and plonk it in the freezer. Take it out a bag at a time. Contact Lee and mention where you heard about him from and Forum AC and you might even get a bit of discount www.hullparticle.co.uk

I'm in the lucky position that a family member can supply it, after preparation costs about 30 pence a pint. Sorry I'm old school, don't measure fishing bait in kilos etc. But very cheap!
Eddie.

You need to bear In mind the possible quality or lack of it when you buy your hemp I just bought 5 kilo dry and it looked ok till you try cooking it soaked it for ages and still didnt split very well when boiled. I surpose If you are using it as a feed / attractor for barbel then Its not essential to have most of the grains split but well prepared split hemp looks great and Will be a great confidence booster. When I need some more I will be giving Hull particle a call looks to be quality and no messing about boiling great price you cannot go wrong and its local to me so I can pick up. Some of the giant variety grains can be very difficult to prepare apparently

One thing I've also been advised to do is to put a small amount of hemp in the liquidiser, and then mix it back in with the rest, and it vastly multiplies the attractant factor going down the river. (and putting 2 and 2 together, that's you on the recent BFW forum thread on this subject I guess Steve? )

Liquidising some of your hemp? I wouldn't do that, it would wash out of your swim in seconds. Hemp has always been a holding bait, get the barbel feeding and keep them on the bait for a while, give yourself chance to catch them. I want my hemp in the swim I'm fishing.

I was told if I didn't have any hemp oil, just liquidise or mush up a bit as an attractant -was told it Washes downstream in seconds like you say and gets them coming upstream looking for the actual hemp where they will hopefully hold. Could be b*llocks but that was in a conversation with someone who seemed to know what he was talking about with regards to barbel fishing the Ribble.
