Just fished my third session of the season at ullerskelf and I have to say it's very slow going at the moment. Tried a couple of different known barbel pegs and only had 1 small fish so far. Was talking to Stan (president) after the GP committee meeting and he reckons it starts to fish in August, don't know what anyone else thinks, anyway no fish so here's a picture of a bridge, can you tell I was getting bored lol.

Wharfe in general fishes better from August onwards, not sure why! The noted barbel pegs are from peg your in upstream to just above rapids.

What do you think of Frim's comment in the YEP this week that it's a river in need of help?

What do you think of Frim's comment in the YEP this week that it's a river in need of help? Just tracked it down and read it nige, mmmmm' perhaps I should have read it before deciding where to fish! At least I have an excuse now lol. Eddie.

Well one good thing has come out of it Eddie. I was planning my first trip to Skelf next week ............. think I will wait a few weeks Best Bridge picture I've seen in a while though . . . strange there's no Barbel there , they seem to be around every other bridge I've looked over in the past few weeks

Hi Eddie
You think skelf is hard work....
I tried to fish Hunters Lodge at weekend, Note the tried!!
I drove down the lane next to the farm and parked up at bottom of field and had a walk down keeping to the right towards the river. If a working party needs doing this would be another to attack. For a start I couldn't see the river, infact I couldn't see in front of me the Himalayan Balsam, Giant Hogweed and the nettles must be 10ft plus. Someone had been and hacked there way through, I tried a bit further on and gave up, this section needs some serious tools and manpower to clear it. So off I went to Linton....
I drives down the lane and in between the fields I opt for peg 262 which I have fished many times before, I had not long set up and there were Cormorants everywhere, to rub the salt in further a family of otters put in an appearance and what with the boat traffic, especially the b*****d in the speedboat (only decides to slow down at last minute, once he'd seen me)so a tsunami engulfed the shore where I was.
So half dozen perch, two skimmers and tiny roach was all I had to show. And to say this stretch is to host the River Fest in October I really can see it being a struggle.
Nidd or Swale for me next.
