Anyone seen the youtube video of the french guy fishing a small french river and baiting up with pebbles with melted cheese on them and fishing chunks of cheese over the top . I kid you not he melts the cheese onto the stones In the oven lets them cool then baits up with them, not sure how he introduces the stones to the river . My one thought was If he throws them In how does he know they land cheese side up,maybe It doesnt matter he was fishing a high stock barbel river by the way. If i ever get round to fishing the Nidd I might give it a go would cup the stones In with my pole though .

I find this idea fascinating but can't find the video, would love to see it if you can find a link. I reckon it would be just as good for holding the fish whatever way the stones landed, cos one of the main ways barbel feed is sucking in stones and stripping them of all the bio matter

Strangely cheese is not a in vogue barbel bait but I would think it fits the bill nicely.

OK thanks, watched it now, at least I know it wasn't posted on April 1st! www.youtube.com/watch?v=uhe3aqI5uVYwow they really are big pebbles - when you described it I thought they would be the size that barbel could actually take into their mouths

If i ever get round to fishing the Nidd I might give it a go would cup the stones In with my pole though . Claire was impressed when she saw the video with me a few weeks back. I'd forgotten about it , but she tried it today on the Nidd near the mill & got one small barbel pretty quickly on stilton, lost a larger one later at the net. I was already out fishing today when she decided to prepare the cheesy stones in the oven at home, so i was really surprised when I got back from H. Bend that she was trying this!
