Here's a good paste to try. Grind some hemp pellets to a fine powder (if you can't find any in a tackel shop try the Hinders web site) then mix weight for weight with green or black swim stim, or both if you like. Then add the mix to your egg and flavour of choice. Great to use on it's own or to mold round hook baits, stops the hair from tangling as well! Cuts down the cost of buying PVA for stick mixes also

Are you talking stillwaters there rather than rivers phil?

If you make it stiff enough you probably could use it anywhere I would of thought! You could probably even boil little chunks like boilies.

Strong flowing rivers can mash up your paste baits phil as you know so it is important to get it just right. Paste also allows you to try different shape baits. I'm sure they get used to round baits presented with a feeder/ bag of feed close by. Try something different if you want to succeed. The prob with boiled baits is that attracting flavours are locked inside - good pastes ooze the smell into your swim.

This is true the skin formed from cooking the paste does lock in the flavours ect. Molding some uncooked paste round the hair rigged cook bait will give you the extra attraction you are looking for though. Molding some of the same paste round the lead also put more smell in the swim. Personally I use glugged boilies, not just hook baits either. I glug everything, twice or more! I wouldn't be uncommon of me to use a full 250ml bottle on a few kilo's of boilies. If you want to tempt a wise old creature out it's snag then it's got to smell good, so good that temptation and greed will be what puts it on the bank! Just my opinion though. Well that and good angling! ;D

I agree with Phil the halbut paste works i know from using it last season i did almost exactly what he recommends i ground down some old 12mm halibut pellets in a OLD food proccesser and added a egg getting the consistancy right can be tricky so dont use all your pellets or powder up save some to thicken it if needed, as for the smell being locked in i personally disagree modern baits be it bolies or pellets are not designed or formulated to keep the scent in quite the opposite, most pellets will realise scent for a few hours, the whole point of hard pellets is to spend long hours on the hook doing just that if they didnt a lot of top bait companys would soon be bust!! if you are concerned about this the simple solution is to shave the outer skin off the bolie and make it a more un uniformed shape .......also scalding your pellets will have the same effect as realising the scent quicker, but what a lot of anglers forget is if you do this the water life and attractive scent power is decreased considerabley after the first half hour in the water!! just my thoughts mind

Be careful using old halibut pellets the oils can become rancid and toxic to fish.

If you put salt n vinegar on your fish n chips folk can smell them from a lot further away! Raw egg must have it's own attraction as well! Years ago I always put an egg in my groundbait to help keep it on the method feeder, quite a few that I was fishing with at the time started to follow suit and their catch rates went up! If only you could get raw egg on the hook or hair rig..

I'm bumping a thread from years ago to celebrate this wonderful chub magnet of a bait.
I BELIEVE IN HAIR-RIGGED GOLF BALLS OF HEMPY CHEESE PASTE !

Paste in general does seem to lend itself to a hair-rig really well. Noticed with the bream on my local pond that I've never missed a bite with plain breadpaste on a hair - they just hook themselves.
