With todays match being cancelled, i decided to have a go on the aire in castleford today. Had a look yesterday and about 2ft on and running off. Went to the pegs i took mick herrington on last year, hes not fished rivers much, but managed around the 30lb mark. Ive fished these pegs loads of times the last 2 winters and the worst day i had was on a 3ft up and still coming up chocolate river. Managed 4 roach and a dozen gudgeon on bomb that day. Anyway, when i arrived today, about 10inch on and fineing down nicely, Perfect tinge of colour on. As i arived at my peg i had to wake a cormorant up, that was having a good sleep on my peg. fished from 10.30 till 12.30 on stick and wag and never had a bite. Fished a bomb till 14.00 and not a sign on this, on a peg in this condition id have expected 40lb+. The fish are usually topping all over the river but never saw 1 top today. Meanwhile the cormorant fished with me the whole time, up and down my bank a couple of pegs either side of me, and about 6 pegs on the other bank. The cormorant was blanking too, untill 13.50, at which time it came up with a 10 ounce perch, and spent the next 10 mins in my peg trying to swallow it. After eventually managing to eat the perch it decided to sit and dry off on one of the staunchions of the bridge(a job well done). As i was packing up 4 more cormorants landed on the river infront of me. Has the black plauge struck again on a prolific stretch of river, or did i pick the wrong day on the wrong peg( A flyer on a perfect river). Well i left a stretch of river, i thought i knew quite well, with more questions than answers.

Maybe it was just 1 of thoes days ben, but whatever the weather etc last winter, there was plenty of fish to be caught. Another thing which was strange, on a day like today(quite mild) it as always been a struggle to get a peg at 8am and i was the only person on the bank

hi guys been upto KP today breaking the ice as steve as said but i must correct my good friend when he says clicker was helping (HA HA HA) he doesnt even know how to spell graft. Anyway me and my son smashed all the ice up and we have managed to break it up and free it from 80% of the lake. Mmost of the ice was only about 5mm thick but from bank to bank , compared to 20mm thick yesterday. Before i left at 2.30pm everywhere was totally clear from bank to bank with all the ice congragateing in pegs 14,15,and 16, but with a nice breeze and not too bad a forecast for the next couple of nights we should be haveing the match as booked on saturday guys .I will be at the venue from about 11am in the morning to break anymore ice etc , any help would be much appreciated thanx sean.
